Which tigger system do you like in a semi auto?

I have always been a single action guy. That is definitely the one I like better. When I transitioned to DA/SA, the long and heavy DA pull always bothered me. Still does. I practice it regularly, but I have never liked it. I have the feeling that I'm losing precious time. It's no problem if the first shot is at really close range and you can sort it out with a quick point-and-shoot thing, then bring the gun up to sight level for the next SA shots, but it does bother me when I have to engage targets at longer distances that require a more careful aim.

I also never quite much liked the feeling of striker fired guns, however, I spent a morning playing with a Glock, and went back home convinced that I needed to get one. When I got used to the reset, I was the first one surprised at how quickly I could send my double taps down range, and the first shot didn't take that much time.

I'm somehow in no one's land. I prefer a good SA pull over anything, but definitely prefer striker fired to DA/SA.

For range work I like the consistency in pull that a single action or striker gun provides (DAO provides a consisent pull, but usually long and heavy which I dislike on the range).

For carry purposes, I kinda prefer the opposite - no safety and I want a long/heavy trigger - at least for the first shot. As a result I prefer DA/SA or DAO guns. Striker fired guns can be ok as long as they don't have super-light triggers. Note that this really only applies to concealed carry in "soft" (leather, nylon, etc) holsters. If open carrying in a kydex holster, I'd be far more comfortable with a lighter trigger. Unfortunately open carry laws in our state are rather strict, so I typically open carry only when hunting.

I own all three of the common semi-auto action types but for carry purposes, I much prefer a DAO with no external safeties or decockers. My carry Glocks measure 5 pounds with the simple mods I have made and my carry M&P's come in at between 4 pounds 12 ounces to 4 pounds 14 ounces. These measurements were made with a digital trigger pull gauge. These weights are right where I want in a DAO carry gun of those designs.

I'm with dondavis3 M&P40 with an Apex carry trigger kit gives a consistant 4.5 lb, crisp pull every time.

I guess striker, I just bought 2 pro series 40's. One in 5'' and one in 4.25. Not giving up my 3rd gen S&W's though.
For target shooting, what's not to like about a good 1911 trigger.

I tried that and the competition version. Both are nice. I also had a pro 5" with that abomination they call a "factory trigger job." I think it was actually worse than a standard m&p lol.

Oddly, I still prefer a well broken in glock trigger (feels the same as a new glock with a 3.5 lb bar and polished mating surfaces) in a striker fired pistol.

I'm fine with any striker fired pistol.

I don't like the weird reset on the M&P but I can live with it.
Standard 5.5 glock triggers are just fine, the 3.5 connectors all feel like mush to me.
Biomechanically, the XD trigger seems to work the best for me, so that is what I carry.

Another reason I don't like "safe action" is that with a DA revolver, the fast way to get off the first shot is to insert your "booger picker" and start to preload the trigger as you come up with the gun, AFTER it's left the holster. This is how the great Miculek does it, I could only hope to be as fast in my wildest fantasies, but it works to get off that all important shot fast. This is how I train (remember, I carry revolvers a lot). Now, you cannot do this with a Glock or XD or any other preloaded striker fired gun. I don't and won't own Glocks and I don't like the fact that I can't shoot cast bullets (I cast my own) in them anyway.

Most definitely the 1911! But I also like the Glock and XD triggers. They are very predictable and consistent.

Trigger

For any amount of custom work being done, I think the obvious choice would be a 1911 platfoem.

For fresh out of the box...Tanfoglio Force, SigArms Pro (Poly) 2340, or 2022. The 2340, in my opinion is buttery smooth. Sig poly pistols are very much underated.

Gunner

CZ SAO Shadow Custom or 1911 SA for target work

Glock with a minus connector for carry

Not quite correct. Kahr's have the same trigger action feel as a good DA revolver. They are striker fired and not at all like the Glock, XD, or M&P. But I don't believe their striker is held in a partially cocked position. I'll have to check one of mine to see.

Update on the Kahr design. The striker is, in fact, held in a partial cocked condition until the trigger is pulled to move it to full cock before releasing it.

When I was a kid, I liked the tiggers whose tails were made out of springs.

My first choice in trigger systems in a semi-auto would have to be the SA as found in the M1911. Next would be the SA trigger in a Browning Hi-Power.
