Whirlpool Corp. seeks to block CCW law on Oklahoma.

Did I miss something in all the heated debate? I thought the question at hand was whether the provisions in question of the Oklahoma CCW law:

1) pass OK Constitutional muster? I think so

2) pass US Constitutional muster?

And as for all the property rights vs. civil rights talk, what about states' rights? Oklahoma has basically said that employers can't affect certain behaviors of their employees based on a legal item in a private, locked, vehicle.

There are many instances where the company parking lot is a mall parking lot. AOL's support center in Oklahoma City is at a mall...so if AOL said no guns in cars, where would those people park? On the other side of the mall next to Dillards? I think the law was intended to clear up this kind of confusion.

No one answered my question.

How many of you work at places that require random searches of your vehicle for drugs as terms of employment? Or know of such a place?

My employer doesn't and I had never heard of such a thing until now. If a supervisor has reason to believe one of his employees is under the influence of drugs or alcohol he can make them have a drug test. If an employee has an accident they have to have a drug test. This is in our handbook but there is nothing about searches random or otherwise.

When the company I used to work for was aquired by Baxter Healthcare, the corp. policy handbook stated that Baxter reserved the right to search all vehicles on company property, with or with out owner consent. When I asked the HR drone what was up with that, she stated the company wanted to ensure a safe workplace and barred employees from having drugs or weapons in their vehicles.

Not being willing to have company loon search my car, I started parking in the street OFF of company leased property.

gee, I wonder how they would have reacted if you would insist you can go out to their P.O.V. and begin a search for contraband items...all in the mind of feeling safer they too were not hiding anything.
