Who doesn’t own/like AR’s?

I have owned several and I like them but it gets tiresome when you come on a gun forum and that is all you see. New guys asking all the same questions that have been asked before, over and over.
Lots of new AR owners is my educated guess. I'm always happy to answer their questions (as far as my limited knowledge allows)

Imo all they are good for is mag dumps and shooting games,
from the OP. I was trying to figure out if he started the thread just to get people to agree with his opinion or trying to get people to disagree with this opinion. One can find millions of folks on the internet giving their reason(s) for dislike of the AR platform and millions of folks telling why they don't like Ford trucks, swiss cheese or French movies, too.

I happen to disagree with that particular opinion (especially since it contradicts known facts about the AR, but let's not let facts interfere with a discussion among all the curmudgeons and haters preaching to each other about how ARs suck).

Tune them right and they drop it right behind you at 4 o’clock. That said nothing throws brass like a mini 14. I’ll admit that after a target session with my ARs I leave with the same amount of brass I came with, but it’s not all mine.

I leave with all of mine, and even after Ive been running around while I shoot. :)

I do not now own an AR as I had bad experiences with them in the military. They gave me an unexplainable dislike for black plastic stocks. I too am a hunter and I enjoy the warm look and feel of wood. Just my personal preference. To each their own, as for me I enjoy using 100 year old guns. It is sometimes a challenge to construct ammunition for them but that’s half the fun.

I have a chip in my tooth I got from a mini 14 back in high school...... But tune em right.... And you can usually find the cases:evil:

Do you actually believe that?

You can get an axis or American for 350-400. Cheaper with any rebate. And yeah it will outshoot ANY 500 dollar AR.

They said for the same price. To get an AR to shoot with a 400 dollar savage you will spend double. My white oak 20 inch will shoot with my 12FV but costed over 3x as much. Chrome line 16 inch barrels and garbage triggers aren't great for accuracy.

A 500 dollar bolt gun should easily outshoot a 500 dollar AR unless it’s a lemon

Or 400 dollar savage/ Ruger... maybe even vanguard for 550ish all shoot moa.

I don’t own an AR. But I don’t own any centerfire rifles. I don’t have a place to shoot one anymore and I don’t hunt deer or varmints. I could shoot one at the indoor range where I am a member, but shooting a rifle at 20 yard targets isn’t much fun.
I’ve shot ARs, both in the military and with friends, but the AR just doesn’t appeal to me. If I had some property where I could shoot at longer ranges, I would be more inclined to buy something classic like a lever action 30-30 or Cimarron 1885 Model 45-70.

With these assumptions, I took to YouTube to see live results of AR15s vs bolt action rifles, and what you claim doesn't seem to hold true.

Who doesn’t own one or like them and why? Imo all they are good for is mag dumps and shooting games, but i am a hunter and all my long guns are hunting related. I have been debating really hard on getting one but really all i can see myself using it for would be coyote hunting and maybe shooting games, steel plate shooting, etc. i just don’t see a practical purpose. Anyone else the same?

Maybe i would be more suited with a PCR. I am slightly intrigued by the AR after handling a few today and shooting one. I’m thinking maybe it would be fun and if i end up hating it i could sell it.

I have three in my safe and they're about least fired long guns I own. Like you, I am a hunter and find AR's clunky, cumbersome and generally chambered for short-range, so-so powered cartridges.

But, you ought to go ahead and get one and see what you think.

Why is one less "hunting".

Ones a 223 savage 12 fV. 26 inch barrel. Shoots one hole at 100 yards. Killed hundreds of varmint/predator.

The others a white oak 20 inch 223. Also one hole at 100 yards. Also killed many varmint and predator.

The AR and the 12 fv are very close in weight. Both portly. Lol. The AR is far better for 2 a followup on a second yote.

Now as far as anything other than 223 I don't see the appeal. I'll take a normal bolt gun.

Let's see you shove that AR in a saddle scabbard there, cowboy.

Don't own an AR though I dated one for four years. Sometimes play with OG's ARs at the range. Might get one someday but there are a few others higher on my want list.

This turned into a Fudd AR, or the like, bashing contest. Pretty much doing the exact same thing and using simular talking points but in reverse. It's the same kind of attitude the Tactal Operators who swear by semiauto handgun and rifle have when the topic of revolvers, lever action, bolt action, and other Fudd guns come up. Fudd will bash automatics from a hunting and hiking protective, and the tacticool guys will bash Fudd guns from a self-defense perspective.

They both are separate tools that are best at different task. Each are better than the other in some areas, and inferior in others. That said, if one wants an all around do it all rifles for hunting, long distance shooting, and self-defense situations, the AR15 and the like are king hands down. An AR can do close to everything a bolt action can do, but a bolt action can not fit into all the roles that an AR can. There's a reason why they are the most own and most popular rifles on the market.

I am a true gun nut, so I love, own, and collect all types of firearms regardless of caliber, action, and platform. That unfortunately leads to me becoming defensive when threads like this come up no matter what is being type of firearm is being criticized.

One benefit to an AR-15 is you can assemble your own with parts you want with minimal tools.

Except for Savage actions, it is not so easy assembling a bolt rifle and some more expensive gauges are needed.

I only have experience with Savage and Remington 700 bolt rifles. The Savage rifle I have, a12FV in 204 Ruger, was accurate out of the box and is equal to my 204 Ruger AR-15

Yes, the AR-15 was more expensive than the Savage but I bought a 26” heavy barrel, a good two stage trigger and a side pull bolt design upper.

I have three Remington 700 based rifles and all three required new triggers, free floating and bedding the barrels to match the accuracy I get with my AR-15’s.

I’ll agree, not everyone will like an AR-15 but if you get out of the “mall ninja” box, they can be crazy accurate and perform well for the tasks their cartridges are designed for.

Right. If one doesn't French kiss the ejection ports of their AR's, they're Fudds.

All around rifle?? Really?? For what?? What can you hunt with an AR? Long distance shooting of what? Elk? Elephants? Paper? Can I get an AR chambered in 300 WM so I can elk hunt with it? Or does just carrying an AR, regardless of the cartridge for which it's chambered, make it an awesome hunting rifle that will kill any beast that walks the planet?

No one's bashing AR's, but geez, these irrational AR's-can-do-anything threads get so old, perpetuated by people who spend more time talking about hunting and shooting than actually doing it.
