Some years ago I was an assistant to a Botanist Contractor for a Survey of Poplar Trees up in the remote mountains of rural Nevada, for the U.S. Forest Service, under the Department of the interior.
I carried a 7 inch 1912 production Colt New Service Revolver in .45 Long Colt, on my Hip, 'Open Carry', and a Box of Shells in my Back Pack, and a few Speed Loaders, charged, in my front pants pocket.
There'd been word about prior troubles with Biker Gangs, and other difficult sorts, so...
Never once occured to me to ask if this was alright with the Dept. of the Interior, or anyone else, and, no one ever said anything, so...
Had a very old Blanket-sided Zinc-Steel Canteen that held something around a gallon, and damn if that thing's Shoulder-Strap did not bother my Shoulder after a while.
I hate carrying things...especially on long, ten, fifteen, twenty mile walking forays on uneven terrain, in the high and arid Mountains.
