My insurance company just informed me that they will only cover my fire arms up to $2000.00. They also want receipts that show what I paid. A lot of my guns were inherited, so I don't have any receipts for them. Do any of you folks know where I can look for a policy that does not require proof of purchase. I would want replacement value. Thanks, Stu

I just added a rider to our home owner's insurance that covered way more than the base amount.

Riders with your homeowners, NRA

Keep in mind that you have to demonstrate to the insurer what the value of your firearms are or establish what the current replacement value is since they're not going to do that for you. If you had receipts (which the OP, and probably most of us, don't) that would help, but it might not establish current value to replace a firearm that is no longer in production and considered collectable. If you paid for an appraisal it will establish current value, but expect to have to go through steps trying to establish replacement for those "collectable" firearms at the time replacement is required.

Most insurance companies lump them into "sporting goods" and there usually is a cap as you found out.....might work for some folk but not for most that visit sights like this.

One thing I can say about the "NRA" option....call the insurance company they use on your own.....the rates are different......me thinks the NRA gets a kick back and that cost is passed on to you. You have to keep ole Wayne in his fancy house you know, and his chronies well greased.

Usaa
They want serial numbers so they have all my nfa and planned to be nfa stuff.

Can't say enough good things about USAA - for almost any insurance needs, been with them since 1974 for home, auto, etc. Haven't had the need for any weapons coverage, though.

One thing you should definitely consider doing is using your digital camera to take pictures of all your guns, including close ups of the serial numbers. Ideally these would then be stored somewhere other than your house so they would be accessible in the case of a complete loss.

I have my renter's insurance with Travelers, and with $100,000 of personal liability
coverage AND $10,000 of added coverage for my weapons, I pay $325 a year.

I insured my collection through our homeowner's insurance - Travelers.
They offer a couple of policy options: one was the one we got which was up to $10,000. To get more we had to get a separate policy based on declared value of each firearm. Neither policy required us to divulge serial #'s. Both covered the firearms "accessories like scopes, slings etc...
This covers air travel, trips to & from the range, hunting trips by car, misc. damage etc... as I have only a portion of my collection with me.

I get $10,000 coverage for replacement value for all perils excluding flood and earthquake.
To extend coverage to flood and earthquake I would have to add those options to our host homeowner's policy.
Deductable: zero
$200.00/year - that's 200 basis points per thousand.

I got this referral from another forum - this outfit is MUCH cheaper - others have reported good experiences with them BUT I have not investigated them so YMMV:
Eastern Insurance / The Hartford "Fine Firearms Insurance"
https://www.easterninsurance.com/insurance-quotes/personal-insurance/historic-firearms

If you have more than 10 firearms you should have a separate policy. If you have an average value of $500 per gun that ends up being double the standard insurance coverage of $2,500 for firearms.

Eastern Insurance has been good to work with with great great rates. Never handle to file a claim though. Keep good records and inventory, pictures are a plus as well.
