Who is shooting less?

Friend of mine brought his 14 year old son and 16 year old daughter over to the house last week to shoot.
I figure we blasted through almost a 1000rds combined of 22LR, 38spl, 357mag, 9mm, 223, and 12 gauge.

The kids had fun!

Cooked some burgers on the grill and ended the day / evening launching Roman Candles out on the driveway.

I have a membership to an indoor range that gives me unlimited range time. I figure if I drop in five times a month for 1/2 hour sessions I'm good to go. I never shoot more than 50 rounds. Most of the time it’s 25 or 30 rounds. I primarily shoot revolvers and do things like ball and dummy so I’m pulling the trigger a lot but not burning ammo.

Well, I am shooting less.

Only partly because of the availability problems which leaves me reluctant to use what I cannot easily replace.

Mostly because I'm busy! It's the rainy season so the grass grows so fast you can practically see it getting taller. Also because I am prepping my house to paint it. Minor repair work, paint scraping, pressure washing, masking, the whole nine yards. I got called back into work a couple of weeks ago so I have gone from having all the time in the world to having very little.

My range membership allows this for me also; but like I said, it's been a little uncomfortable recently.

Normally, it's always been friendly, and I'm on a first name basis with everyone up there. We often chat almost as long as I spend shooting. I know one guy is now engaged, I've heard about his hunting trips etc. He's still cool, but running a lot right now. The head guy right now, he's running (like everyone else) and has been downright irritable and borderline rude. When my rifle came in, I had tracked the UPS, and eagerly went up when it was delivered, didn't wait for the call saying it was there. When I came in, the place was bustling, and so I just stood back and waited. Head dude saw me and said "if we didn't call it isn't ready yet"; I just apologized and said "hey, it's like Christmas, I'll wait until you get to it".
As a range member, I CAN shoot that gun while it's delayed, so after the weekend I went up with my son to show it to him (and I didn't expect it to be released). He again made the remark that if they didn't call it wasn't ready; I just said that's fine. Understand, I'm not slapping on the counter when I walk in demanding my rifle, I'm walking in, standing to the back of the crowd, and smile and wave "hello" if someone makes eye contact.
Later on, while I was looking at the rifle (the other guy said hi and got it for me, told me I could go shoot), I made a little smalltalk remark about the rifle and asked head guy if they had ordered some more from the place I got mine, as they had 4 new ARs on the wall. He made a smartass comment about "hey they all look alike" and rolled his eyes like I was a dumbass... yes, I get that ARs look similar to an extent. These all happened to have the same M-loc free-floated front grip, full length rail with no iron sights, and M4 buttstocks, the identical hardware as mine. Most random AR's Ive seen have had different front stocks, some have the A2 front post etc, different buttstocks.

Sounds like I'm whining, but hey- I'm paying an extended membership so my son and I can go in, not just me. That costs more than standard. I've been a member a few years, you've seen that I have a bunch of different guns. It's just a new platform to me. I know you also sell firearms, and if you would have had an AR within the same price range, I'd have bought it, but this was $200 less. I know you're busy and don't want to bug you, just don't treat me like I'm annoying you by frequenting your business.

Sigh; I think we're all a bit stressed out with everything. This has been a rough year. I'm ready for a return to normalcy.

Shooting more, buying more, and reloading more. I've bought several guns since the hysteria started, and I've done lots of reloading. Got my first AR-15. Leftists will eventually come and confiscate it, so I wanted to be able to say I had one for a while.

Whether ammunition is hard to come by depends on caliber, whether you shoot the exact same products everyone else shoots, and whether you insist on buying locally. I've found acceptable, good, and even great prices. Haven't paid any gouger surcharges yet.

Buying ammunition locally is not really a possibility for me. The offerings are sad, and the prices are high. Things got a lot worse after Gander Outdoors closed. That was a great store.

I'm trying to build up an ammo and components savings account I never touch. I think $10,000 is a very reasonable expense if it has me shooting in 2030 when everyone else is carrying pepper spray, whistles, and kubotans.

I have not shot a single round since I adopted a young German Shepherd puppy two months ago. The little guy has been keeping me really busy but I expect to be back to my range very soon.

I am. Mainly because all the ranges are closed and any land I had access to shoot on is nearly a days drive away.

Same here, almost word for word. I've bought 2 rifles since Covid started, the C308 for under $600 and the AR 15 for under $500. These seemed to be under pre-Covid MSRP for both, probably street rate (pre-Covid) for both.

Ammo- I've bought plenty during this. 9mm Luger, got a case of Speer Gold Dot LE 124gr JHP for 39 cents a rd, and several cases of range fodder for under 20 cents a rd. I've considered 20 cents brass to be the baseline for years, used to actively buy whenever it went below 18. Haven't paid more than 20 for it yet. Decided that if I can find it at 20, I will add more.
For other, calibers, I've perused the .45 acp offerings, and whenever I can find something at around 28 cents or lower, I grab some. I've probably added about 1500, of mixed steel and brass. The steel has been closer to 22 cents.

Rifle loads, it's been interesting to say the least. Since I added .223/.556 to the stable, I've had to stock up, regardless of price. I already had a 7.62 NATO in bolt, but with the C308 I wanted quantity, so again had to do some orders.
Fortunately, the roller block design seems conducive to steel, so I've kept that at/under 40 cents a rd, be it brass surplus (Korean), or steel. I don't know if that's "good", but it seemed so before this started.
Same thing with the AR loads, got some IMI brass for 38 cents a rd, have some steel Tula coming in at 25 cents. I understand that's a little high, but I had nothing beforehand. So I needed it.

I can shoot handgun in my back yard and I'm flush with ammunition. I just have been busy with other things. I need to get a few guns out and have a good time.

The spring skeet league at the club I belong to was postponed due to COVID-19. It finally started up in late May and I've been participating in it.

My rifle was released yesterday, I picked it up but didn't shoot (it was close to closing). I had done a test mag when I filled out the papers, so I know it runs. It came without any sights, so last night I put a cheap reflex I had laying around (took it off my GSG). I don't know if it will hold up, but a buddy has some flip ups he's donating to me, too.

Happily, the range was quiet and the guys were nice and friendly again. :). I will go back this weekend, and try out some of the Tula 9mm too, as well as the Federal aluminum I have. Gonna try to hold off on shooting brass for now.

If that's the Federal/Champion aluminum case ammo you're talking about, it's great. I really like it. If it's available...buy every single box you can right now. (As long as it's cheaper than brass cased ammo.) I've never had that ammo fail to work in my subcompact 9mm, and it's at least as accurate as Blazer Brass. I know a guy who runs it in a 92FS and a CZ striker fired gun with the same results. I'd go to war with that stuff.
