I hate scopes!

Can anyone think of a rifle (other than CZ) with iron sights, in a midsize centerfire round? .270, .308, etc.?

almost everything I see is set up for scope-only

thanks

The Russians.

Correia has two of these bolt action rifles, one in .308 and one in .30-06. They're quite nice, and have a lot of nice features. Sharp iron sights, hammer-forged, chromed-lined barrels, etc. He hasn't been able to sell them, though. They're kind of an unknown compared to all the Remchesters out there. Quite well made, though.

This one is in .308, and this one is in .30-'06.

I'll have to check with Correia. If I'm not mistaken, he's got one of them, the .308 I think, marked down to under $500. It's brand new, it just hasn't sold.

Not as smooth as a Remington, but plenty tough, I think.

It is easy to get sights from williams for the Savage rifles. Use the M110 rear, which goes on the holes for the rear scope mount, and the front ramp/blade of your choice.:)

OK. I've had the same discussion with a couple of my buddy's. I too, do not particularly care for scopes.

But rather than limit yourself, buy the best gun you can, orfer a set of sights from Brownell's and run with it. Great selections are out there, and no matter what, you're gonna spend less than a "good" scope.

I have some scoped rifles, but my overall opinion is they tend make you a sloppy shooter over time.

Nightcrawler just PMed me. I've got two of these, they're brand new, and I've got them marked down to less than what I bought them for. I haven't been able to move them because everybody wants a Remchester.

.308 $375

30-06 $475

I have a Mossberg 800 and 810 and both have iron sights, excellent Williams sights straight from the factory. Neither cost more than $300. Of course, they are always used, but excellent rifles.

Personally, I'd just go for an already sporterized mil-surp, There were some lovely ones done with superb aperture sights in the post-war years. I'd bet you could find a .270 Springfield without much trouble at all, given the tastes of the day.

Savage has some decent sights on their new rifles, shame they are made of POS plastic parts (the sights).

Seems like the only rifles with good sights are safari guns.

The Remington M700 BDL, 750, 760, 7615 and SPR18N come with irons. The Model 7 doesn't. You can get a Mossberg 4X4 and Model 100 in .30-06(et al)with irons too.
However, you'd be best to buy a rifle you like and put on whatever iron sights you like best. Factory irons are usually rather poor due to them knowing that most rifles will have a scope mounted. Williams Gunsights is your friend.

Correia-

Could you give us a quickie review of the Russian rifles, including fit/finish, ergonomics, and overall quality?

Thanks :)

Trueblue, Mosin Nagant Finnish modell ( bestn ones: 28-30 and Ukko Pekka) best micrometer ironsights in the whole world witch metric numbers. Very near to ft -measures.

I've got two Remington 700 ADL's in .30-06 and .243 and they both have irons. They'll both hold minute of angle or better with factory ammo too. (with a scope of course)

KI.W.- I regret that Finn Mosin Nagants are not very common where I am, and when they are, they are shot out, or over priced.

Shoot out..here in Finland they are very good condition If You to give $ 300-350. Kauko

They look pretty good. I would say the overall quality stacks up well against the Remchesters. Ergonomically, I like them. The bolt throw isn't as smooth as I would like, but I'm assuming that would break in some.

The ergos of the stock are actually rather nice. They are beefy guns, with well protected front sights. The rear sight is a buckhorn with a click adjust for two positions.

Retail on these is is $575 and $675. I got them in when I first became a distributor for Russian American, just to see what would happen. But bolt action rifles aren't really my forte, and 99% of the long guns in here are some sort of evil black rifle, so I don't get a lot of bolt gun seeking customers in.

yay for finland!

my SK.Y Mosin Nagant m39 is a very nice shooter.
actually, ALL of my m39 rifles are very nice shooters.

right now i am rebuilding an m39 from a 1938 Ishevsk D barrel. KI.W, what do you shoot?
