Funny thing about caliber, history shows us a lot of famous shots with less-than-ideal calibers. So we all hear about bigger=better and "I wouldn't go anywhere with less than a <whatever>..."

Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated with a .380 with 1 shot to each
Jack Ruby fired 1 shot from his .38 Special
Oswald used a 6.5mm (.264)
Hinckley was a near thing with a .22LR
The most prolific mass executioner in history used a .25 Walther:

Off topic for which I apologize....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Model_1910

"An FN M1910, serial number 19074, chambered in .380 ACP[1] was the handgun used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, an act that arguably precipitated the First World War.[2] Numerous previous sources erroneously cited the FN Model 1900 in .32 calibre as being the weapon Princip used.[3] This has led to confusion over the calibre of the pistol actually used."

Quoted from the above Wiki article on the Browning 1910.

Just ran across this story in relation to a different one, and found this article:

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Mercy-Fitzgerald-Hospital-on-Lockdown-268489642.html

According to the article:

Silverman also pulled out his weapon and fired upon the suspect, the preliminary investigation showed. Plotts was hit three times in the torso, Whelan said.

Other doctors and case workers then rushed into the room and tackled the man to the ground, wrestling with him for the weapon.

If this is accurate, it looks like this wasn't a physiological stop. Looks like he still had at least some fight in him.

Looks like he lived long enough to get into surgery, too:

The suspect is in surgery and is listed in critical condition, Whelan said.

Just thought I'd include it in the thread as a reference point, not getting into a caliber debate. (And I have nothing against mouse guns. They have their place, and this still looks like a good example of such a place to me.)

What I found most disturbing is the almost total lack of coverage. If you just search Google for the name of the hospital, it doesn't come up with news about the shooting. If you search the hospital name and the word "shooting," it shows up, but the first headline is "Medical workers say violence is too often part of the job." No bias here. Nope, none at all . . .
