Who started this .380 auto trend?

The .380 cartridge, itself, is a nice round for self defense even if it may define the minimum.

Ehhh, Matt Helm used a 22LR Colt Woodsman, which is WAY more realistic than anything I ever read in Fleming's books. Too many James Bond movies would have been a chapter in a Matt Helm book, in which Helm killed someone and ended the plotline.

I've seen WWB .32 ACP and .25 ACP at Wally World, in CA that makes them practically mainstream. I'd MUCH rather have a 22LR than either of those benighted calibers.

My recollection of Matt Helm from a long, long time ago was that he carried a Model 36 with the hammer "tang" filed down or cut off so it would not snag his pocket. Am I wrong?

OK. I have to add this. My uncle may have been a spook. He worked for AID in Africa, South America and Pakistan. I am sure many are familiar with US AID in the 1960s. He always packed a Colt 1908 which he used once in Tanganyika. There were Red Chinese there, too.
