Why are you a member of THE HIGHROAD...

Most of y'all have hit upon just about every reason I can think of....but being unable to control myself and loving to hear the sound of my own voice (reading it is even better because I can go back and look again and again) I am compelled to post these remarks......
What TAllPine says.:D

Don't know really. Information on a wide range of subjects and lots of help if you have a firearms problem.

I think it is sort of a natural progression.

Initially it was simply for information and TFL/THR was the best place to find firearms info on any number of firearms while the specialty forums Glocktalk, Sigforum etc. were more narrow in their approach.

After a while you grow very fond of the dialog and differing views of people and at the same time you are learning and having fun.

Finally I have met some real live non digital, non imaginary friends out of the boards. People who share interests and just some plain good people.

So I guess THR is really just a big international coffee/barber/gun shop.

The four boards I frequent most in order are The High Road, The Sig Forum, The Ruger Forum and The Smith Forum. All are made up of very civil and intelligent people as a whole, all offer me immense amounts of information and all are easy to navigate. I frequent THR the most because of the people I have gotten to know and the vast diversity of information I can acquire in one place. Besides you guys are a great bunch of gun nuts.

GROUP HUG EVERYBODY. :barf:

Since handguns are my hobby it was only natural to search out a forum where I can exchange information and opinions with others who share this same interest. THR is by far the most active and interesting forum I have found. I really don't spend much time on other forums as I don't have that time to spend. I also appreciate the fact that for the vast majority of members they are friendly, polite and articulate in their posts. It is simply a wonderful place to enjoy the company of other gun nuts. :D Best to all, Mike

I joined TFL right around the time I got my first gun, because I wanted people who I could talk to about the decisions I was making who wouldn't think I was completely nuts.

I stuck around because not only did people give me lots of good information and encouragement, but I discovered that I really like talking about this stuff, and because I learned something new almost every time I logged on.

I followed everyone to THR because where else would I go?

And I became a moderator for the same reason I've been volunteering at my range -- so that I could help give back to a community that's given a lot to me.

Communicate and community have the same root, communicare, which means to share. ... We naturally gravitate towards media that enable us to communicate and form communities because that, in fact, makes us more human. -- Linda Harasim

I like how busy this board is vs. alot of others out there, the variety & civility of the members & seeing how Skunkabilly's tacticality evolves :D

I have to agree with everything mentioned so far...

But let me add:

Quite often its DAMNED FUNNY!:D

(and yes, I'd say that in front of Art's Grandma...then I'd probably have to go out to the woodshed with her)

Information from sources more intelligent than I about such subjects that I know not.... translation.... they got the answers that I don't. Also, it is an addiction; I gotta get my fix of THR everyday. I always get a kind, well mannered response to my question even if it is followed by a flame.

Its nice seeing other peoples viewpoints to tactics, etc. It makes you see your not the only person in the world with some knowledge. Therefore, you actually get to learn something, instead of just arguing and fighting.

Because my friends and coworkers don't dig my tacticality.

It's the only place for me to really be myself and talk about everything I love: guns, being Tactically Logistical*, survival, carbon fiber, sharp pointy things, gun school, tactics, stuff made from Cordura, Royal Robbins pants, etc. When I'm operating at work, church, bumming around with my friends or anywhere else, part of me is in hiding, but that all changes on THR.

Lotsa reasons: I learn a lot, for one thing. It's "play therapy", to some extent, where there are a lot of discussions involving ideas/concepts as well as the technical specifics of guns.

I've been meddling with guns for over 60 years, and it's a bit of a chance to play "school teacher". :) I can pass along what I've learned the hard way, to help speed up others' learning process. "Payback", maybe...

There are a lot of fun folks here to BS with, and those I've actually met have all been really great people.

Beats heck out of TV, too! :D

Several reasons but primarily the access to quality information, the sense of community and fellowship from interacting with fellow gunnuts, and networking with said gunnuts.

Actually, I come here because my shrink says if I didn't, I'd probably act out on most of my manic delusions and might hurt myself.

Seriously, for a LONG time (TFL), it was to learn.
I'm a 9/11 gun-baby (the scales fell from my eyes as a result of those events), and have gotten MOST of my firearms-related education from you all as I sought to absorb and retain all that I can.

I've since converted my wife (CCW requirements completed, waiting for the State to mail the card), my son (first range experience last month), and working on my oldest daughter (not anti, just slower to warm to it). Also had many interesting conversations with friends/family using intellectual ammo I learned here.

But lately, it's mainly 'cause I see the news *I* am most interested breaking here faster than I could get it on TV, and it's usually digested and commented upon quickly and intelligently from a 2A/freedom/conservative mindset.

I've babbled long enough. The nurse says it's time for my medicine.

Cause the guys down at Floyd's Barbershop are all "Yellow-dog Democrats" and don't know diddly about firearms, history and such. And I get in trouble if I hang out there too much, not too mention very little hair left when I walk out the door.

A serious and simple answer...

Because I can be part of a family who share common ideals (for the most part) I think highly of and get to see neat pictures of Tamara's guns, Olegs posters and keep up on Skunkabilly's tactical coolness as well as the political awareness or breaking news (Where is JLB anyway?) from 2dogs, twoblink, agricola, Bruce/fallingblock and Microbalrog.

Its all good.

Adios

I came for the food, and stayed for the pie!

No...wait...I mean, I came for the information, then stayed for the information and the entertainment.

Although there is a fair amount of BS anywhere, there is also an awful lot of genuine knowledge here, in the heads of people that are willing to share it, and I value that a lot.

And then some of the folks here are deliberately humorous, and some are without meaning to at all!

Overall there is a high level of respect, and I like that too.

Matt

Ditto to all that's been said. Especially the social side, info. and funny stuff.

Gus

PS oops posted under daddy. :) Gotta love having 2 people fighting over the same computer all the time.

I might as well chime in as well.

This place, IMHO, is THE source for just about anything you want to know or ask concerning firearms. It may not be as "social" per say but after visiting many other gun-related forums this place is the most professional and covers such a wide variety of the subject.

I like the fact that there is very little BS (thanks mods) and that intelligent debate is welcome. Even when we dont all agree it ends friendly. And for that reason, I will be here as long as it exists.

Information and the continuing learning process that I still enjoy as a senior.

My old grandpa said "if you aint learnin your dying"

I just like the gun culture and the people in general.

Altho I do have to say that THR has as of late seemed to have a few more intolerant folks hanging out. Guys, there are Democrats, non-christian atheists, and even ACLU members who are pro-2nd. Let's not hate. Let's educate!

Many reasons. The main one is that none of my friends or family like guns, so this is about the only place I get to hang with some like-minded folks. :(

Several reasons:
(1) As long as I don't get too specific, I can be open about my interest in firearms without compromising a stealth existence.
(2) The information (Where else can you learn about the VersaMax II one day and learn the next day that cats and gun parts don't mix?!)
(3) The humor!

I lurked here for a while, saw what I liked and joined.

So many other boards (no names) are immature, condone flamewars, moderated by idiots etc.. I like the mature adult atmosphere and professionalism.

Another reason, let me see if I can make this sound right and not corny, HOPE, this place gives me HOPE, I shoot with a small group of people (plink mostly) and sometimes reading the papers, watching the news and basically dealing with sheeple is pretty darn disheartening and you get to feeling you are all alone in this fight. HOPE, coming here, I am not alone, people speak my language and we are united for a common cause.

I always feel pretty good coming here.

All right enough mushy garbage.
