Why are you a member of THE HIGHROAD...

Because life is all an just an illusion and a big reason for pretending to live is life's entertainment value.

What can be more entertaining than reading things about everything from Herman Hesse to screw backout problems in Winchester lever action rifles written by a bunch of eclectic guys from all over the world?

I am a member of THR because I want to give back to the community.

Actually I am really here to download those gun porn pictures :)

Why?

Because it's one of the few places in the vast internet confusion where my sense of humor is not considered abnormal.

Who may be moving soon and a vast number of people are available to comment on local clubs, ranges and dealers.

Knowledge

I am very knew to the firearms world of things and I look to everyones experiences and hopefully learn from them. My questions cannot be new ones so I look to the search feature to find information. Really I use this like an encyclopedia. I don't post much but when I have some intersting things to add I will.

but, yeah , information.

TFL was extremely important for me; I learned so much and developed genuine fellowship with so many of the “regularsâ€. THR reunites me with these individuals, is dedicated to mutual firearms education, and fosters our shared interest – with civility and mutual respect. That is critically important for me. I am VERY glad to be part of this community.

Incidentally, sorry to be tardy in replying to this thread; I have been off-line, due to Isabel, for the last 30+ hours.

Regards.

I'm here because I learn good, useful things every day, and have a few bits of knowledge to add to the general accumulation. I get more than I give, but to the extent that I give, it's in the spirit of old timers who gave generously to me when I was a novice.

Thanks to one and all!

I am here because I am humble in my firearms knowledge and there is always something to learn. I contribute when I have something to offer.

I was same at TFL.

Keep up the good work!

Like Skunkabilly, I don't really know anyone who gets what I believe and why. Most of my family and friends sort of tolerate my RKBA ideas the way they tolerate my great-uncle who claims to have been visited by The Lord.

(The Lord came to Uncle Ivan in a dream, and He told Uncle Ivan:
"Ivan, you've got a nice little pickup there. What you ought to do is haul junk for people, and you could make a tidy living."
"But, Lord," replied Uncle Ivan, for he was tormented by doubts, "it's only a little S10. . . ."
"Well, Ivan," replied the Lord in all His wisdom, "just make a lot of trips.")

It's The High Road......

The folks here are very knowledgeable, civil, and always willing to help out with a question or three.

Besides, it gives me an escape from the dismal anti-gun climate here in Australia, and a chance to share the situation with those in a position to resist similar tyranny in the U.S.A..

And, as Art wrote...It sure beats T.V. :D

<click> (opens email) " hey Steve, gonna answer your own questions? "

I really can't add to anything that has not already been posted.

I've always had my "principles , beliefs and interests", granted not everyone agrees with me--sheeple have the right to be wrong. :)

I found TFL where I found like-minded folks, a wealth of information, shelter from the sheeple, a release from stress.

TFL closed, and I naturally stayed with the folks whom I had grown accustomed to. THR might be called a " forum", seems more like a "community" to me. A community with vast resources that challenged my thinking and still does. Thank You.

Besides, having returned to school, most, if not all of my classes / exams are online...THR doesn't give exams. :D

This place is great courteous knowledgeable people, I've been on a lot of boards and people are like "how can I make a silencer?" or "can I drill out a blank starter pistol and make it a real gun?"
I'm glad there isn't any of the that nonsense here.

Here, my level of interest in my primary hobby (Which is regarded as a somewhat distasteful and unhealthy obsession by many 'uneducated' folks.) is admired, respected, and appreciated.

Additionally, I can write REALLY well without much effort, a talent I haven't used much since I got out of school. That ability, combined with my level of study about firearms, has earned me something VERY valuable to me: Credibility.

I look really young for my age. When I'm 50, I'll be the envy of all I know for my spry appearance. Today, at 35, I can easily pass for 22. When I was 22, I apparently looked like I was a high-school kid. People my own age refer to me as "young man" when they don't know my name. The fact that I have a tendency to talk quickly also conveys "youthful energy". Basically, I'm a 'bubbly' person, but my faith in my own judgement, which is based on experience and sound thinking, has a tendency to come across as "brash youthful optimism".

For my entire life, being taken seriously by my nominal peers, rather than being DISMISSED as "some kid who knows nothing" REGARDLESS of the validity of my opinion, practically has to be beaten out of the world at large with a CLUB when interacting on a face-to-face basis. (I have to be the only person who can't wait to get older, as I am heartily sick of being "young".)

This place, along with TFL before it, has NEVER let my appearance interfere with my communication. I am taken as I present myself, as a mature, albeit a bit odd, adult. No second guessing. No condescension. No patronization.

That is unique in my experience. You'll pardon me whilst I savor it with almost frightening intensity. This place matters to me.

Things that enable me to interact here on that kind of level seem to be unique to this place. That takes the form of the attitudes that (most) people have foremost in mind when they communicate on the board, which happen to be a few other things I value almost obsessively, as they seem to be going by the wayside in society at large:

Honesty.

Integrity.

Accountability.

Politeness.

Good manners.

4th-hand RUMORS of other places' members lacking such qualities is enough to prevent me from so much as checking them out to confirm or deny it.

TFL was the second forum I landed on when I finally got regular Net access some 2-ish-plus years back. I abandoned the first more than a year ago.

The High Road makes the third. I feel no need to go anywhere else. This place validates my existence like no other.

And for that, Fellow HighRiders, I most thankfully salute you all.

I "found" TFL while looking for information on my "already purchased" PT-111. Naturally I moved to THR when TFL was no more.

Since then, I have checked out many other boards. What I found was:

Truly juvenile behavior - (I'm not talking about YOUNGER posters or newbys here...)

Administrators who wanna play "tough guy" for no reason (while doing things that should get themselves removed from the board).

Excessive use of profanity

Posts to wade through that have nothing to do with guns...

Boards whose "response time" is too slow to be enjoyable...

I have found no other board that can compare with THR.

I was unable to figure out how to get on the porn sites on the Web. So I started with TFL and now THR with the hope and anticipation that someone will tell me which streetcorner has the people selling the $25 Glocks. :D

The rest is just patience and enjoyment.

THR is a great place to get information on guns and accessories. The people are knowledgeable, MATURE and more than willing to share info and experiences. The forum is clean with no vulgarity and threatening behavoir. It all boils down to attitude. The folks here a great attitudes.

I just joined and

so far its been a good source of information from friendly people with a sense of humor.

Hard to explain. The info, the topics and most certainly the people. I feel comfortable checking in to see what's going on and responding to as much as I can so hopefully I can help someone as much as I've been helped. Other forums seem to be full of trolls or people that can't wait to flame anybody they deem inferior and that's a shame.

I enjoy the collective wisdom and wit and know if I have a question regarding any firearm related question someone will chime in. I also think that any honest evaluation of this site by non- members/ non-shooters/ or antis (misinformed leading to improper/negative outcomes) will realize quickly that although we throughly enjoy our hobby/passion we are not a bunch of knuckle dragging cavemen/cavewomen shallow in the gene pool whose family tree resembles a totem pole but, rather a group of people of honor and integrity enjoying a wholesome activity with our friends and family. Collectively, I believe we make a difference and for that reason I belong.
