...that I would get addicted to reloading?

I am always on the prowl for good deals. I buy powder that I don't really need because it was a good deal :what: and I bought 1100 pieces of 9mm brass, 200 bullets and carbide dies for 9mm - for $30. Kicker - I don't own a freaking 9mm. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot :D

My wife just shakes her head and laughs at me - maybe in disgust, but I'll take what I can get.

I'm getting surgery on my right shoulder in November so I've mapped out my weekends so I can reload before I'm down and out recovering. I did change my reloader so I can use it left handed :neener:

And...I'm sitting here waiting for a guy to call me back to tell me what reloading stuff he has left so I can go and buy it from him.

Reloading is a sick, degenerate, all consuming addiction. Oh well, beats the He** out of golf.

I bought a 223 because I had brass and bullets piling up for one. Counts. Welcome to the nuthouse. My wife doesn't love it, and hardly laughs, but she gave up a long time ago. Leverages it for shoes when I grumble about yet another pair...

I just bought an S&W in 45LC because I had gathered some range brass and found some 45LC brass in there :)

That's the same reaction I get from my wife, usually followed by "you're crazy". I pick up brass at the range so it's free. The only problem with that is I get a lot of calibers I don't shoot. Once I got up to 1,500 pieces of 45 auto brass I had to buy a 1911 so I could shoot it. I just had to.:D

It works out like that all the time. I have a 243 kicking around. Ran into a bunch of 6mm remington stuff that was too good a deal to pass up. Now look what I gotta go do.:scrutiny::D

Hi THR Crew,

My name is LGB and I am a shooter and a handload-a-holic.

It started off with a Lee loader many moons ago. It was done once in a while just for fun. then once every other weekend, then every weekend. before I knew it, I was doing it even during the week. I told myself as long as I don't do it 3 days in a row, that I still had it under control. Then I got my first single stage and moved onto other calibers. pistol and rifle every day, processing something to make more rounds. Before I even knew it, I could no longer take the fact the the single stage could not keep up with my pistol round needing frenzy. I purchased my 1st progressive. then another single stage and then another progressive and yet another and another single (Turret). I began scouring the web for deals on bullets, jacketed, lead or plated, didn't matter. Powders and primers also became hunted. I became a nerd to the science of velocity, reading books and threads alike. I outgrew my first bench and built a final 10' long bench thinking it is still under control only to find I needed a 4' foot extension. Not wanting to be too far from pulling a handle, I built another bench (a mini bench) next to my recliner so that I keep my brass churning on yet another new press while football season is upon us. I have often found myself on my hands and knees, shamelessly collecting brass at the ranges while I shoot. I have even resorted to not shooting a semi auto so that I don't lose brass (till my wife bought a brass catcher for me).

I have even begun to collect lead so that I can make my own projectiles to build even more rounds. All this so that I can shoot more, then handload more... the perfect circle never ends.

My name is LGB and I am a shooter and a handload-a-holic.

Cheers

Elk, here's a couple lines I've collected from other loaders/shooters:

"Spent most of my money on guns, booze and broads. The rest I wasted."

"Piss on golf; waste of a good range."

And here's what I tell my students:

Men will spend $2 for a $1 item they need.

Women will spend $1 for a $2 item they don't need.

I'm in the middle of processing another 1K pieces of once-fired LC .223 brass. Do I need it? Nope. Will I be loading it anytime soon? Not really. Am I glad I have it? Oh yeah.....

I consider it a healthy addiction.

I wish I had 500 pounds of lead - I do cast! I got started when a guy, out of the blue, sent me a single stage press. A few thousand rounds later that 27 year old press is still churning them out, and I am completely hooked. Factory ammo is too expensive, and too generic. Making my own is a productive and relaxing hobby, and my wife is completely supportive, too. Of course, she gets to shoot some of them too! :)

I got back into it after a twenty year hiatus because of obama the scumbag. Every time I pull the lever I think of what a nightmare I am to liberals!

I've got fifteen sets of dies...I cast, size lube crimp on gas checks and shoot some more...I reload for Nagant pistol,Moisen Nagant rifle,Carcano,.45-70,.303,.38/.357 .45 auto .45 Colt,.45 Schofield,9mm,.30-06,8mm Mauser,.223 .32 H&R .32 S&W....SAY! That reminds me I need to get some .32 auto dies...

Because infecting others with the madness is part of the disease! Just wait until you are infected with the sickness of scavenging brass down at the gun range. I've seen days when I went there to shoot and spent most of my time picking up lots of cases of stuff I wanted but hadn't found yet. And no, my wifey doesn't understand this illness either...:D

Hey, it's better than crack.....and just wait until you start brass-scrounging in earnest. You'll find yourself looking for all the country shootin' holes and "bubba ranges" you can find, just to scrounge MORE brass you don't "need". Then you'll start dragging home the brass that nobody else wants, "I can clean that up!"

I gathered up so much .40 brass, I had to buy a .40 carbine to shoot the stuff.

Heh, some of the .40 and .223 brass I've scrounged has looked at least that bad. Corncob media with Meguiar's "Cleaner wax" auto polish mixed in turned it bright and shiny and made me a happy man!

(Okay it also revealed a few cases that were cracked or dinged or in other ways just shot out, but it recovered most of them.)

So far I've managed to avoid going too crazy and only have dies for the pistol calibers I shoot. I'm slowly building up a brass stock, seems I can't stop buying PRIMERS <grin>.

Uh, we warned you. Repeatedly. And like every other addict you thought "what harm can one or two pulls of the lever do?"

Well, now you know.

Holy Cow Ron, could you please post an after pic of that brass?

No problem. Soak it for awhile in this stuff....

They come out kinda pinkish.....

But they polish up OK, at least to me anyway.....
