Why is the Glock 19 better loved than the 23?

I am buying the Lone Wolf .40 barrel for my G23, thats because I reload and have seen first hand the "bulge" on the case because of the unsupported area of the Glock barrel. The .40 is a high pressure case and almost any flaw such as repeated high pressure loadings can cause a case rupture. But as for a defensive posture I prefer a .40 or a 10mm over the 9mm.

I've had both barrels side by side and looked at them. You might be surprised about the 'unsupported' myth. The Lone Wolf barrel does have a tighter chamber than the OEM Glock though.

I'm not concerned about KB's. I don't reload ammo and I actually clean my barrels.:D Not to concerned about ammo cost. Just reliability and speed.

Think I'm going to try the 23 unless I find a 19 in green first. I wouldn't mind trying the .357 sig either. So I guess I could add the G32 to the list as well, only I'd get an extra .40 barrel for it.

19, 23, 32.....first one I find NIB in OD greens going to be the winner. If I find all three or only black, I'll get the 23.

Thanks for all the help.

Wearing a 23 right now, love it. What the other posters have said about the compact Glocks being extremely size efficient is true, the design doesn't require any extra bulk whatsoever, so even though some people call them bulky or blocky, they are actually pretty trim compared to pistols with comparable stats.

I also have a 9mm conversion barrel for mine, I took it out last weekend as a .40, then a few days later as a 9mm. I was actually pretty surprised to find out that I didn't notice a big difference in recoil between the two. I did notice that I am clearly out of practice and need to hit the range more often though. Had a bit more muzzle flip as a .40, but it wasn't bad. When I had it out as a 9mm I vaporized a small glass pipe I found out at the shooting area, it was great. I use a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel, I think it's about the least expensive one out there, and I have had very good experience with their customer service with the 40-9 barrel for my 27. Solid, heavy stainless steel barrel too, they feel good.

I had a 23 -- sold it. Ended up picking up a 19 years later to calm the universe & the handgun gods...now all is at peace.
Why is the 19 better? I prefer shooting the 9mm better, Glock has had fewer problems w/ the 9mm line up & their reputation began w/ their full size 9 mm -- the 17 --

I have a 19 and 23. the kick back and up is only worse with the FMJ 180 grain load in the 23. The low recoil PD loads are about the same as the heavy 9mm loads IMO. I like plinking with the 19 but have decided the 23 with CT grips is my primary ccw.

Oh I have to agree that Glock does their best work with their 9mm pistols, but they had ten years of practice with that caliber and it is probably the easiest caliber to design a pistol around. Not particularly demanding on the pistols and it tends to feed well.

Its because it is a 9mm plain and simple. Its not that I hate 40s but the ammo costs the same as the 45 so I might as well have the 45 plus I like 1911s and 40s are scarce in those guns. The 9mm is the most prevalant gun around the world with tons of ammo availability.

It is my understanding that the original Glock pistol was actually developed around the 9mm cartridge. The problems with the large caliber Glocks occur because they are a 9mm gun that has been redesigned to function with a larger cartridge.

Smith & Wesson designed the M&P around the .40 S&W cartridge, and they had quite a few problems with the 9mm version when it first hit the market.

I am in the market for a compact Glock right now myself, and even though I much prefer the .40 to the 9mm, I am looking for a Model 19.

If I buy another general-purpose glock, it'll be a 19. IMHO it is a real sweet spot for capacity, size, recoil, and concealment among service-type pistols.

yes Dan ....As it appears you do....although I was asking for theirs. I have a 19 and love it I just perfer to carry the 23, a little more power for about the same size. I must confess I like shooting my browning HP a little better than the 19 but then it was my very first handgun that I owned.
