Why on earth do MSR type guns not come like this?

every time I buy a new one the first thing I do is throw the flash hider or muzzle brake in the trash and put a thread protector on it. When you shoot out the pickup window it’s not too bad on the ears. An inch or so shorter too! I would think manufacturers would want to save the dollar too.

Way I look at it, you paid for it twice when you threw it out. :p

Hey, whatever. I take mine off too, and then put one on that runs around $100, unless I can find them on sale. No flash what so ever with the new one, and if I choose, with a couple of twists, in a couple of seconds, no muzzle blast either. :)

Oh, and you can sell those old FH's on eBay too. People on there buy anything. :D

I’m a YHM Phantom fan myself... mainly because it works really well at keeping flash minimized on my shorter barrelled AR’s. . The second benefit is when one was pinned on my 14.5” barrel it is now legal without the SBR hoopla.

Different strokes for different folks.

Stay safe.

None of my guns with threaded muzzles are still wearing a thread protector. A few have flash-hiders/brakes of some type most of them have a 51T suppressor mounts of one type or another. A suppressor is nice on the ears, nice on the shoulder, and keeps you from setting the interior of the truck on fire when shoot through the passenger window from the drivers seat. :D

That and shooting 'out the pickup window' is illegal in many states.
I’d argue real operators don’t have time for ear plugs And not being able to hear will get you killed (or wife will hate you for “ignoring” her. ). But I’m just a dumb redneck.
Nor are you a real operator. (I'm not either.) They have sophisticated comms that block gunfire enough so they can hear their team, yet are sensitive enough so team member in close contact can whisper and be heard.

An A2 flash hider is noticeably louder than a normal muzzle. Especially out the window of a pickup.

I can’t grab hearing protection every time I see a varmint. Doesn’t work like that in the real world.

muzzle flash has absolutely never been an issue in any civilian situation I’ve been in besides using a night vision. And even that was with a flash hider. (16” 308) suppressor keeps that solved.

why would a 223 ever need a brake. (The one in the picture came with a brake)

Im with you most of the time. I dont have much use for threaded barrels no matter what type of gun they are on generally. I usually dont do muzzle devices unless it is more convenient to just use it such as with ARs.

My 450 Bushmaster Ruger American Ranch came with the protector and not a muzzle device. It was a non-catalog item and that was apparently how it was speced buy the distributor. I was happy about it.

That's how most of my barrels are equipped. I do have some flash hiders and a brake (or two) but I prefer the simple thread protector most of the time.

Funny how my friend who hates the 'crack' of a 223 seemed to get the rifle with the brake on it when he borrowed one .

There’s not enough difference to save your ears. Give me a good brake over a thread protector any day of the week.

For hunting yes, but if you want to target shoot from your tuck I would bet that is legal.
I need to check the regs again but I don't believe you can even have a loaded gun in your truck here lol

ARs without something on the muzzle look funny. I ran my 458 socom without a break or flash hider just so is shorter, That's pretty much the only one.
