Why would extreme gun laws work?

Is it me or has everyone forgot about the large numbers of murders in Mexico that happen every day? Mexico's gun laws are very strict, yet they have some of the highest murder rates in the world. How would a assault weapon ban work here if it does not work in Mexico? The last one didn't work, as there were at least 8 murderous rampages during the AWB including Columbine.

Are these people just dense or just easily manipulated? This whole thing makes me sad. To trample on everyones rights because of the clinically insane is, well, insane. Children were killed. It is terrible and a great loss. My brother was murdered two years ago by a dirtbag with a single shot shotgun. Yet myself and my surviving brothers and sister never thought that guns should be banned or taken away from everyone. My brother was a U.S. Army soldier that was on leave from Iraq on his 2nd tour.

The man who shot him wasn't allowed by law to even own a firearm, yet he had one and used it. Thats right, a criminal with a illegal firearm. The law didn't stop him did it? But taking firearms away from law abbiding citizens will? How about the guy who stabbed 23 children in China? They should outlaw cutlery now, right? How about a discussion on testing people for mental illness, that seems like a better idea.

Preaching to the choir.

I'd like to point out that the over priced crap at the mall has more security than kids in public schools. There is a serious flaw in the slaw right there.

Of course armed security at the schools would be admitting that gun free zones don't work. :banghead:

choir.

Just curious, but at one point you could, in Mexico, own any gun under a 9mm('smaller' than military). 1911's in 38 super were about as premium as you could get and, while buying them might be difficult, owning them was totally legal. I believe I know of some folks from down there who transferred some model 10's when they moved back. That was about a decade ago.

Is that not the case?

People on the other side of this don't take Mexico into account because they say poor little Mexico is still a developing country. Apparently, they are worth less somehow. They compare us to the developed world. Oddly enough, we are not the world leader in the developed world for homicide. Estonia is and they are a developed country with strict guns laws. I mentioned that in an argument and the idiot on the other side said, "You can't compare us to Estonia!" I replied that it is fair for the rest of the world to compare us to the low countries. He first argued with me concerning the fact that it IS a developed country and has tough gun laws.

I think it is also safe to mention that the stabbing recently in China wasn't the first one. There have been a total of 6 since 2010 with fatalities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_attacks_in_China_(2010–2011)
