Will Inertial Bullet Puller Ruin Primers?

Being somewhat of a tightwad I used my inertial hammer to breakdown a great number of an entire batch I had loaded too hot. I actually wore out two of the collets on the hammer and gave myself a blister on my hand. I went to Sportsmans Warehouse to purchase another collet for the hammer, but then saw the bullet puller die for a reasonable price and a collet for the caliber I needed and decided that I worked very hard all my life and darn it I just opened my wallet and bought it. Even if I never use the puller die again I consider it well worth the $.

I have about 200 rds of .380 that I need to break down with my inertial bullet puller.
If the primers will survive the smack of the puller, then I can remove my decapping pin and reload the primed cases and pulled bullets.

If the impact of the puller will damage the primers, then I'll just trash the primers.

I could reload a bunch and see, but someone here has probably been through this before...

I've never hurt a primer with an inertia puller. I think you will be able to reuse those primers ok.

I buy commercial ammo that’s not loaded right off GoneBroker and pull it, reuse the primed cases with my powder and the same bullets that got pulled. Last batch was 500 rounds of .40S&W for $30 shipped. The powder is a blend that looks similar to HS-6 but burns different. I’ve pulled probably close to 5k miscellaneous rounds using kinetic hammers (and case holders) and have cracked three. I use a 6” thick x 16”round butcher block on a bar stool and it typically only takes two whacks to pull about any bullet. The key for me has been to strike the blow perpendicular and square to the surface. I try to let the hammer bounce without jerking it or using too much force. Sometimes it doesn’t work but it’s mostly an okay way to get it done.

I routinely take apart ammmo that has been turned in to recycle and salvage components. So far in 20+years of doing this none of the ammo pulled apart has had ruined primers unless there has already been a firing pin dent in it. I use the kinetic puller and shellholder for most handgun ammo. None of them have popped off either. You should be safe as long the primer is below flush when hammering. Just Sayi'n.

Gave up on the multi ctg collets years ago.........just got tired of replacing them. Substituted with tight fitting shell holder and have not had an issue since. By the way, I use the flat face of a very large vise for the impact point, seems to work a lot better than a wood surface.
Mostly I try to avoid the impact puller approach with collet pullers if possible.......impossible with most cast projectiles, especially if you intend re use.

Should have added that I have never had a primer detonate on either pulling or decapping and I have been doing this since the early 60's.
