Let's say that on November 4th, our favorite presidential candidate Obama wins the election. How quickly will that affect the prices on things like AR's, AK's, etc. Will prices be up on November 5th? After his inauguration? Somebody educate me on the economics.

Only by those unscrupulous who will take advantage and price gouge.

I don't forsee any drastic changes in ammo prices in November.
Anyway, the question will become moot as the other guy prances to victory.

If it looks like he might win, you won't have to wait til November 5th. I imagine some folks have already started in with the higher prices.

it is hard to tell.

my guess is that the expectation of riots on the evening of november 4th will sell a lot of guns and ammo in october. there may not be much left to sell.

People having been buying in "fear" of obama for atleast the last 6 months. I'm sure the closer we get the more chicken littles we will have running around claiming the sky is falling.

I bit melodramatic there WSM MAGNUM?

The only thing I see increasing the price is paranoia and fear of the "come buy a gun at double the price before they are all banned" club. I don't see it even being an issue that will come up after last time, but I could be wrong. We did after all have an 86 ban and 89 ban too on various aspects and haven't had a pro gun president since the 1960s.

I think the guys a turd, but i really dont expect TEOTWAWKI. But I am trying to stock up on reloadable Ammo

While personally I think our huge heller victory is a reason to not worry at all, many will still panic buy as they've been doing for months. I think prices may go up a little but don't forget that in things that targets for panic buying (say ar15s) there are a massive amount of sellers. I think it will be hard to command much of a premium with so much competition.

Presidents have ignored Supreme Court decisions in the past. I hope I have some income to spend on at least a .308 Saiga before anything bad happens.

I sure hope not. I don't really like either one of the men running for president. I agree they both lie. I am not sure who to believe.

if the wrong one wins, give it 3 months, you wont be able to afforad any ar ak sk etc.
BUY THEM NOW
you can always sell them later if the right one wins.

well the right one for right now

Actually if you look at the threads here on The High Road, you can see that prices have already started to rise in anticipation of the upcoming election. For example, the question is often asked: What should I get for SHTF?...for in case X gets elected?...for in case the Dirty Rotten Nasty Stinking Democrats take over? etc. When demand goes up, usually prices go up.

If I were selling semi auto rifles and pistols, especially "assault" style rifles, I would probably say: Buy now before it is too late!!

So to answer the question, will prices be higher on Nov 5th? My answer is yes, probably even higher that the artificial highs we have now.

My crystal ball tells me that prices will continue to climb through November no matter who wins the Presidential election.

OK, so contrary to my original question.... Let's say McCain wins on Nov 4th... will prices fall?

I think that if the gun culture keeps up the full court press now that we have heller under the belt, and continue to throw logic and facts in the face of the fence sitters that guns aren't inherently evil, whoever wins won't touch the gun issue with a 10 foot pole (at least for a while).
However...Will unscrupulous sellers take advantage of panic buying? You bet. If a few large sellers keep selling at reasonable prices it'll force the opportunists out of business, or at least force them to adjust their prices.
Let's say McCain wins on Nov 4th... will prices fall?
No. McCain isn't anti but he's not exactly ready to start repealing overly restrictive current laws either. That'll have to be done by other means.

I don't care to attempt to predict future events.

We all should have purchased at least a ten year supply of everything three years ago!

I'm not a member of the LDS Church but I sort of recall that friends of mine who were members always were prepared for serious hard times. Being prepared for such is never a bad habit. . . .

I'm doing my part to keep the Washington stupidity down.

And, frankly, guns should not be the only consideration for an election. Sheesh. Seriously. Not that it shouldn't be a large one, especially for the local conversations.

But however much I like Obam as a person (relatively, he's still a politician) he's an idealist, not a realist. And since the popular vote hardly has any sway on who gets into office anyway, I figure there's no point in worrying about that.

What you can and need to do, is spend our time making sure the senators and representatives are who we need.

People forget that it's not what the pres says, goes. So speak where your vote is actually counted and start electing people that can knock down the upcoming bans and keep any rampant idealism on a leash.

Panic buying will occur leading up to the general elections regardless of who wins. Can't call it price gouging when it's demand-driven. Just means the level-headed will have to plan their purchases around the event.:(
