With the sanctions put on Russia for it's acts of aggression against the Ukraine, will it stop all the cheap ammunition from Russia? It would seem that will be one off the first things stopped from importation. Also if Mr.Pootin keeps his dream of a New Russia, that ammunition source may never come back! I guess its another thing to buy before it's gone! :(

Almost certainly.

This new authority expands upon E.O. 13660, which the President signed less than two weeks ago, by authorizing the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to impose sanctions on named officials of the Russian government, any individual or entity that operates in the Russian arms industry, and any designated individual or entity that acts on behalf of, or that provides material or other support to, any senior Russian government official.

Sec. 4. The prohibitions in section 1 of this order include but are not
limited to:
(a) the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services
by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in
property are blocked pursuant to this order; and
(b) the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services
from any such person.

Yes, but...

will ammunition produced outside of Russia for them come in under those company's own labels and make up the difference?

Were I an enterprising importer I'd work with those manufacturer's directly (assuming the Russians don't hold the manufacturer's to their contracts and stockpile the ammunition and then dump it in the U.S. market in retaliation) to bring in ammunition directly.

Also,

a) Any transaction that evades or avoids, has the purpose of evading
or avoiding, causes a violation of, or attempts to violate any of the prohibitions set forth in this order is prohibited.
b)Any conspiracy formed to violate any of the prohibitions set forth
in this order is prohibited.

That would also include any Firearms! So goodbye to all those MN91s, Makarovs ect. And all those P-38s &Mausers from WW2, that Russia has exported. This doesn't help the collectors & new shooters that where getting into shooting because they could afford a Make.or a MN91/30 . 7.62×25 mm will go fast! Tok. & CZ52 shooters might want to stock up! No more siagas or AKs eather!

With all the crap that's going on in the Ukraine right now, the last thing that concerns me is the loss of cheap Russian ammo. But then, on a distilled spirits forum, some folks are probably worried about the future availability of Russian Vodka.

With both the Vodka and the Russian ammo, odds are, if you ain't acted on it by now, you're SOL.

Exactly if we start discussing to geopolitical ramifications of the US's foreign policy then this will go off topic and be quickly shutdown. It may seem insensitive to the life of death struggles going on right now, but the only thing about the situation that's really on topic for this forum is our supply of guns and ammo from that part of the world.

Oh and I wonder how long til we see boxes of steel cased tula on gunbroker for five times the retail price. I know that doesn't make sense since its at least perceived to be inferior, but ya know people are dumb.:banghead:

I wasn't trying to be unsympathetic to what is going on! Just sticking to rules. The run on firearms & ammunition are of concern to me & others here as it Will effect the price I pay to shoot or get that pistol or rifle I have wanted for years! Along with thousands of others who shoot I am going to lose that option now. I see this as a blow to many citizens who willnot be getting a firearm to protect themselves & their familys form crime because of this. These are what I was bringing to discussion. None of this is good news except to those who will profit by it!

WOW. having looked at this thread I just checked all the usual suspects for the surplus spam cans of 7.62x54R, and they are all either sold out, or way over priced ($130 for a 440 round spam can).

Good thing I have the stuff piled high and deep.

So is the Tula 7.62x39 you see everywhere made in Russia or the US. I know this is a dumb question but a google search shows Tula USA.

How do you think 7.62x39 will be affected?

Well. I got mine last week, kind of ticked off the wife but it's in our storage locker now. It's warming up with the bane of the "haters" who want me to stop buying good clean fun! Every 1000 rds of Brown Bear delivered in their own (2) 50 cal cans at $270. Good luck!

good riddance...i'm tired of that polymer coated garbage getting in the mix with good range brass

Good riddance? IMO, I don't think so. Yeah it's annoying but try buying 880 rounds of brass 7.62x54R without getting a second mortgage. I REALLY hate picking steel .223 up, but it is worth the hassle to get free brass. I did a price check, the cheapest brass 7.62x54 is $589.16 for 880 rounds.

Its not a sweeping ban. It allows for the restrictions to be placed against anyone involved in the government or in the manufacturer of arms.
Remember that a executive order is not new law, but an order enforcing an existing law, often times in a new way.

The current list are only politicians. So at this moment sporting firearms are still ok.

The ban does not have to create the shortage itself, the hoarding and panic buying by those afraid it might is in itself enough. Look at the ammo/component shortages after the last two Presidential elections. It wasn't those that were elected that created the shortages, but the unfounded fear by others that they were gonna.

As I said in my previous post, odds are, if you're just thinkin' about this now, other hoarders and those buying for profit have already beat you to it.

Maybe we'll get lucky and everyone that panicked last year either blew their savings and can't afford to do so this year, or has "enough" stockpiled.

I spent five years shooting supply budget when the Ukrainian riots started. I'm good on ammo.
