Will We Lose Access to Cheap Russian Ammo?

How so? I don't read it that way at all. It only applies to the individuals listed.

Section 1. (a) All property and interests in property
that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the
United States, or that are or hereafter come within the
possession or control of any United States person (including
any foreign branch) of the following persons are blocked and may
not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise
dealt in:

(i) the persons listed in the Annex to this order; <--The People on the List
and <------ A very important "and". As I read it folks meeting the following critera are also subject to sanctions.

(ii) persons determined by the Secretary of the
Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State:

(A) to be an official of the Government of the
Russian Federation;

(B) to operate in the arms or related materiel
sector in the Russian Federation; <---- Relevant

(C) to be owned or controlled by, or to have
acted or purported to act for or on behalf of,
directly or indirectly:

(1) a senior official of the Government of
the Russian Federation; or
2

(2) a person whose property and interests
in property are blocked pursuant to this
order; or

(D) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or
provided financial, material, or technological
support for, or goods or services to or in
support of:

(1) a senior official of the Government of
the Russian Federation; or

(2) a person whose property and interests
in property are blocked pursuant to this
order.

(b) The prohibitions in subsection (a) of this section
apply except to the extent provided by statutes, or in
regulations, orders, directives, or licenses that may be issued
pursuant to this order, and notwithstanding any contract entered
into or any license or permit granted prior to the effective
date of this order.

WOW. having looked at this thread I just checked all the usual suspects for the surplus spam cans of 7.62x54R, and they are all either sold out, or way over priced ($130 for a 440 round spam can).

Good thing I have the stuff piled high and deep.

Just looked on Gunbot and it looks like business as usual. Everyone in stock and still available for .21/rd. Let's not create our own panic....

Yeah just the other day I tried ammoseek.com and 7.62x54mm was way above last time I checked. Stuff that used to be 18-22 cents a round was now at 30+ cents per round, and right now there are only 2 results showing less than 45 cents per round! That's darn near as expensive as cheap steel cased 7.62x51mm NATO!

Good thing I have close to 3000 rounds of this stuff saved up. It's not a mother lode or anything but it should get me by for quite a while.

I just hope this situation stabilizes because 7.62x54mm WAS by FAR the cheapest full-power centerfire battle rifle cartridges one could possibly find just a matter of days ago. It was easily half the cost of the next cheapest .30 caliber full power ammo.

I hope those days aren't gone.

YES!

Ukraine Freedom Fighters & Somali Pirates were at Walmart in Kansas today buying all the 7.62x39 ammo on the shelves!

I seen'em! :D

No.

They bought it all at 6:30 AM last Sunday before Walmart restocked this week.

Two guys in black suits and dark sunglasses, with ear-bugs.
The older one with the credit card had a 1,000 yard stare, and kept jerking his head sideways funny.
Like a tick.

I seen'em!

Its not a sweeping ban. It allows for the restrictions to be placed against anyone involved in the government or in the manufacturer of arms.
Remember that a executive order is not new law, but an order enforcing an existing law, often times in a new way.

The current list are only politicians. So at this moment sporting firearms are still ok.
And Mitt Romney was going to win the White House by a landslide to. Ever hear of pork filled bills. ;)

I just picked up a 440 round tin of 54R at Dunhams yesterday for $99
Most of the bigger retail stores here have Tul in 39 for $4.47 a box. Shelves are pretty stocked in Tul, 9MM, 40SW and .45 ACP. Will be interesting take another peak at those shelves in a couple weeks.

I traded my Russian SKS towards another HK last week. I figured if ammo gets hard to get, it's value would go down.

So far I'm not seeing any indication that the US adm. has targeted Russian companies/products specifically. That doesn't mean it won't happen though.

Here is a good article that outlines what might happen from a reputable source.

Any extension of sanctions could penalise rich Russian businessmen and others deemed to have significant interests located within the EU and US.

The introduction of direct economic sanctions would probably mean import/export bans.

My guess is there will eventually be import/export bans. You have to realize that Russia is not a real player in world markets having an economy that ranks eight in the world. They aren't real big on trade issues and aren't going to let that dictate how they deal with Crimea or any other eastern bloc country. Also our imports from Russia are only 1% of our total so no incentive there to keep them coming in.

I think that steel cased ammo is a goner in the next few months.

Yepper. Hope you have enough Russian ammo for any Russian guns you own.

Once ammo imports from Russia is stopped, all things will sky rocket. The .223 bulk will hit roof level prices as well. We hope Obama doesnt push with his agenda of confronting Russia to prove his machismo. Besides that part of the world is not our business. Russia is only doing what we would do if such scenario happens in our own backyard....

What is really happening and what the ammo/gun hoarder crowd think or imagine is happening are two different things. Regardless, the economic consequences, of which cheap steel cased ammo is a miniscule part, for the EU in particular, but also for the US of putting any sort of meaningful sanctions in place against Russia right now are far too great. We got most of what we wanted (Ukraine, albeit minus Crimea, hopefully mitigating the chances of a nasty civil war) from our $5B investment towards usurping an unfriendly-to-the-west democratically elected leader, it is time to declare victory and get back to mag dumping cheap Russian steel cased ammo.

There was a news story on one of the St. Louis stations last night that said "Dumbo" had signed yet another EO to ban further imports of Wolf and Tula ammo. Nothing was said as to caliber, just brands.

Prices this Minute on Russian 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are the same as they have been for months, according to "Gunbot".

7.62(x39) is still .22-.25/rd., "available" at nearly every distributor, and 5.45x39 as low as .15/rd. at Wideners. About 98% of all of these distributors state "available", in clear, green letters.

But heck... if people wanted to store some and had the extra ammo cash a few weeks ago, what were they waiting for?
Nothing over there happened overnight: demonstrations in Kiev, Ukraine were getting worse for the last several Months, and Russia's only year-round warm water naval port has been in the Crimea for a while.

A little more news-watching could already have paid off. That's often a personal decision. When basic unconv. (Russian) Saiga 5.45 rifles sold out at Classic Arms two weeks ago with Russian soldiers on many tvs (no missing Malaysian 777 yet), it seemed a good idea to order two heaps of Wolf.
It appeared very possible, if not obvious that Russian or Ukrainian ammo could be the next focus.

Yep. It's not really a surprise.

A little website news plus some Google on history (no commercial interruptions) and geography might not seem cool, but at least one's favorite gun(s) might not face sudden starvation.

Prvi Partizan's manufacturing location (Serbia) might not remain stable forever. Some of us remember the early 90s.
