Will we/they create a witch hunt?

Guys and gals,
I happen to work in the mental health field. And I see first hand, everyday, how easy it is to be put in an institution for an evaluation. I can promise you, it doesn't take much. Tell someone you miss your parents that died several years ago? Get a third party affidavit and you're sent away. Listen folks, this is my profession. I know what I'm talking about. There are many, many, many people that come through the doors of my hospital for a 24-72 hour evaluation that are NOT in any way mentally unstable. Sad? Maybe. Anyone reading this ever been sad? Ever wished you could see a passed relative or dear friend one more time? You can be sent for a psych eval. It's a very smart ploy by the government in what they are doing.

Someone on the first page said it. You tell a doctor you have guns for protection and he called you paranoid. Next thing you know you have swat knocking on your door ready to confiscate anything they can find.

I agree with big bore. The people who don't want anyone to have guns are the same people who are going to be deciding who is mentally fit or not. Which means at few people as possible.

I've never been diagnosed with any mental disorders but I'm sure as hell never going to a doctor again. Haha

SilentStalker,
Your idea is sound. But let me put a spin on it for you....

Lets say we get 8 million gun owners to march on Washington. That's a big number right? Ok so 8 million of us march. It will make national news no doubt. But.... The liberal news media will only say that we barely got 10% of gun owners to show support for the cause. So obviously we were just the minority extremists. The other 90% of gun owners must agree that something needs to be done about gun control.

See? It doesn't really help our cause at all. In fact it makes the 8 million of us (who actually had a pair) look worse than we already do.

We have 3 options. Vote these "bass turds" out of office, March on Washington armed and literally throw them out of office, or simply be pacifists and write threads on here about "the good ole days" (not in any way directed to the OP that started a thread about that the other day).

I don't think mentally ill people should have access to firearms either

With an estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year you sure are seeking to ban a lot of people.

Maybe you need to re-examine your position.

I have a problem with this. Take a look at your three closest friends. If they seem OK, then YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S NUTS! :D

R1derbike,
If your friends seem normal to you, and your the one who's nuts, would your friends not also be nuts since they appear normal to someone who's nuts? Lol.

After reading the link, approximately 1 in 4 suffer from a mental disorder, and 1 in 17 suffer from a serious mental illness.

This whole mental health issue is rife with opportunity for egregious misuse; it raises more questions than may ever be answered.

This is going to be a convoluted, protracted train-wreck, where even the professionals disagree on avenues to proceed which are fair, sound, and correct.

I may see a time when the entire firearms owning population is declared mentally deficient, and confiscation started post-haste.

Not trying to be pessimistic, just examining a worst case scenario, as a matter of record.

Just because someone has mental health issues doesn't mean they are gonna go out and murder a bunch of kids. We should stop trying to figure out who the next shooter is and instead prepare people to protect themselves from whoever it happens to be.
