Weather broke today so got to the range for first sight-in of my new Model 70 .308 (Leupold VX 3i 3.5-10x40 with Leupold 2pc. (std) base and rings) Took 4 rounds to get on paper at 1” high at 100 yards; my next 5 rounds were at 1” high, dead center with all rounds touching - I am very, very impressed with this rifle - WOW! Recoil was abrupt .308ish but felt rather tolerable, trigger was (guess?) right at about 4# (a tad heavier than I like) but was very smooth and crisp. I was shooting cheapo WW 150 grain “white box” factory ammo; I am convinced that skilled, younger eyes would have shot a tighter group. Great rifle! Also, the Leupold scope adjustments were mathematically spot on - click count and direction matched exactly to the needed POI moves. (Ps, I will be glad to post photos of the rifle and my range target if someone will walk me thru the photo posting process - thanks)

A friend bought a Ranger in .243. I sighted it in for him. It came with an unmounted scope. I suspect someone had already sighted in the rifle because it was dead-on at 100 yards with no adjustment. The holes weren't touching, but might have been had the caliber been larger. I raided the elevation 2" and gave it to him.

Easiest sight-in I ever did.

Awesome! The EW was my “next rifle” until I got a different one instead ;). I still would like to get one someday maybe if they come out with a 338 Federal!

On my phone I use the Upload file button at the bottom of the reply box to post a photo.

Reloading is always worth it, it is fun and gets you to shoot more,

Plus a good bullet with a proper workup should shoot better then the cheap Winchester ammo, have fun with the new gun

Nice write-up. That is an awesome hunting combination: rifle, cartridge and optic choice! Kudos!

I agree regarding reloading. If nothing else, you save money.

Congrats on the acquisition.

Have you messed with torque on the stock screws or just just take it out of the box and shoot?

Mshootnit, the only mechanicals I did to the rifle was mount the bases, rings and scope and gave the barrel/ action a light cleaning/ light lube - then onto the range. I did not touch the stock screws; they are as they came from the factory. After seeing my shooting results, I will leave it as is - I don’t want to mess with a good thing.
