Hi all,
First off I'm new to THR so if I'm posting in the wrong place or something feel free to set me straight.
So here's my problem, I recently purchased a Winchester 1200 used from Cabelas. I bought the gun because my buddies 1200 has the smoothest action I've ever felt and mine is the same. Until you try to chamber a shell. I've taken the gun completely apart and used Hoppes 9, used a brass brush, and steel wool and then oiled everything but it just gets hung up when the extractor tries to grab a hold of the brass while entering the chamber. It's right when the loading ramp is about to drop back down and the bolt is about to be sent all the way forward. It still chambers, it just takes much more effort than my friends two 1200s. Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Disassemble the bolt if you haven't. You'll need to drive out a pin or two. See YouTube. Clean extractor spring and slot and extractor. Use good ammo, i.e. Not Winchester Universals. Have a look at the chamber. Might need a polish with steel wool on a brush chucked in a drill. Might be something bent. Used guns at Cabelas are always a gamble.

Examine the extractor and also the rim of a shell that you did get to chamber. Look for sharp edges on the extractor and corresponding gouges/scratches on the rim of the shell. What you describe is often the fault of the extractor digging into the rim when the shell comes up under it as the bolt pushes the shell into the chamber.

Also, as 1KPerDay recommends, clean under and around the extractor and make sure it moves freely.

Jim
