Hello to all, I'm new to posting but I need some input. I have a 1300 defender model thats jams when I use certain brands of ammo. I loaded the Winchester AA target loads and they function great, Then I load Remington #4 buck shot loads and when I use the action the extractor jams the shell. I tried cleaning and lubing it but to no avail. Anyone experience similar problems or have any ideas on how to fix this. Im using it for home defence so if it has problems with my defense ammo thats a worry.

describe the jam in detail. Where exactly are things hanging up? Does it lock the slide? Does the empty brass stick in the chamber? Does it only misfeed when you try to chamber a new round, etc?

TO 1k: It jams when i feed a new round, for some reason the next shell in the tube comes out a bit so in order for me to "clear" it i have to push the shell back into the tube and attempt to refeed.

So, if I understand you correctly: it's double feeding? Be very specific. When you fire a round, what happens? Does it release the next shell in the tube THEN? Or does it release one when you rack the slide and then release another (extra) one?

IF it releases a round on recoil, before you rack the slide back, you likely need to look at your shell catch or interrupter or both.

Not double feeding, but when the extractor is bringing up the next round it stops short of chambering and for some reason the next round in the tube is coming out just a little that it stops the 1st round from chambering. I wish i could post a pic but im not at home at the moment.

so the next round IS being released prematurely, though.

when you say the extractor is bringing up the next round, you mean "elevator", right? What is blocking that round from chambering? is the nose of that cartridge hitting the top or bottom of the barrel? Can you cycle it very slowly and look closely and see whether the extractor (the claw on the right side of the bolt) is getting bound up as the rim tries to slip behind it?

Or does the premature release of the next round from the mag interfere with chambering and prevent the elevator from returning down?

In either case, it seems your cartridge interrupter and/or shell stop needs attention.

I wish I could see it in person... hard to diagnose these things remotely. :)

Yeah, I remember you saying that. That leads me to believe that it's the added recoil jarring something past the shell stop, and/or different sized brass/rim messing with the extractor clearance. Hard to say without eyes on it

Win. 1300 jams and double feeds

I just found on 1 I've had for a week checking all the usual issues. then found on really close scrutiny, the interrupter tab bar moves and slips off the action bar to allow dbl feed and jam. If I keep pressure on the bar, visible at trigger group, bottom side up. the action would work smoothly and w/o jams. Not sure just yet how to proceed, but considered a shim possibly. the hammer pin goes thru each bar and it seems plenty tight, but there is movement on the shell stop bar as well as the interrupt bar, just not as much to allow shell kick out. Any suggestions? have not much work on the shot guns.

That 1300 I was having issues with, did turn out to be a throat problem. It wasn't broken, but was worn in the slots (where the bars from the trigger group, that carry the shell stop and interrupter hook in and ride) just enough to allow the interrupter bar to slide off the cam of the action rods. I proved it by making a shim from alum can, stuck it in and sure enough it worked great.
KP321 gave me the idea to use my mallet and a block to drive mag tube inward to unscrew the throat. I was able to replace it, the used a large heavy nut and flat washers against the mag cap, then, without great force and some time, I was able to get the mag tube back into place. this shot gun with some cleaning and light grease in the receiver, bolt group and trigger group is as smooth as a babies back side. My customer is happy and swears its like new again.... Thanks, so much for your input KP321..

That IMHO is the big weakness of the 1200/1300... throats in older models especially were subject to damage from some of the chemicals people use in cleaning guns, and I don't know how readily available replacements are. For a while there were some one piece nylon replacements being made, IIRC...

Glad you got that one going again!
