Right before 2000 (when the supposed Y2K crises was supposed to happen) My father brought a Winchester 1300 for HD/General Purpose. This is the standered 1300, nothing fancy, straight from Wally World. My biggest problem with the gun is the action lock. I can't stand having the slide locked, and the ways around it so far are either press the button to rack the slide and load a round or squeeze the trigger and rack the slide to put a round in the chamber. I don't like this and would prefer a no lock gun. Any advice on this? Also, I would like a good mag extension tube, any advice on that (plus costs)?

Put the gun in what the cops call "Cruiser Ready".

MAKE SURE the gun is empty.
Pull the trigger to drop the hammer.

Load the magazine. Put the gun in the rack.

All you have to do to use it, is pump the forearm to chamber a round.

A good quality magazine extension for the Model 1300 is made by Choate Machine and Tool.
The Same model also fits the Winchester 1200.

You can also buy it from Brownell's.

If you have an 18" barrel, you'll need a 7 shot extension.
If you have a 20", buy a 8 shot.

DFARISWHEEL... Great info!! I have a 1300.. Have any of you guys had any forearm problems yet? Mine broke at the welds on one of the bolt glides. Is there better hardware out there?

There isn't anything available in a stronger assembly for the 1300.

I'd just buy a new one, and chalk the broken one up to bad luck.
They usually don't break, but anything and everything is possible.

Thanks guys. No, I haven't heard of any forearm problems with the 1300's, guess you just got a bad one...

I do not think there is a no lock (action) gun made. With out the action locking before firing it would be a blow back gun. I would not like to see an unlocked bolt come back thru the rear of the receiver of a 12 gauge firing 3" shells.

Just curious, and this thread provides a good opportunity to check. I have read that the current 1300's have a plastic trigger guard, similiar to the Mossberg 500. Has this shotgun always been so equipped, or did that variation get introduced in the last few years?

I could swear that the 1200 and early 1300 I have played with in the past had aluminum guards.

I am not talking about the internal lugs that lock the bolt- I am talking a safety lock that is called an "action lock" by Winchester- of course, I call it a POS...

:scrutiny:  It really seems that the "action lock" so derided here IS an essential part to the gun's functioning, not an added nuisance. Get with the program, man! ;)
