Does anyone have any idea what this gun is worth? Or the reliablility of these guns. It's a winchester 1400 with a 26in barrel improved cylinder(non screw in choke). This is a nice gun. I got it in a trade.Only one small blemish on the stock near the butt about the size of a dime.Look like it scraped against something.Blueing is perfect.I will do my best to post some pics ASAP.Any and all help/input will be greatly appreciated!!!

I would place my guess in at $250.00 with it having a plain barrel. These are a good shotgun but never had a good retail value. I know several guys who hunted with them for years and they worked as well as anything and they put down a ton of game with them.

Yep - probably $250 maybe $300 if someone really wants it. The lack of winchoke hurts a little. You don't say if this one of the Mk II guns or not. I a 1400 Mk II - it only holds three rounds, one chambered, two in the magazine. There is no plug and the magazine tube cannot be expanded. The Mark II Model 1400 replaced the 1400 model in 1968 and was discontinued in 1973 - so your gun is somewhere between '68 and '73 if this is a "mark II" 1400. There were 'model 1400s' made again in 1989 - but not the same as these early "mark IIs". They are good guns - the only real weak spot is the plastic follower. Excellent bird hunting gun, probably not something that would stand thousand of rounds on a clays field.

Mines been through a lot of rounds, don't know an exact round count, but I hunt birds and ducks with it. I bought it in 89 or 90, somewhere in there, a "Ranger". Very soft shooting gun, one of the easiest 12s on the shoulder I've ever fired. Don't even have a recoil pad on the thing, don't need it. The gun fit me like a glove right out of the box, too, something that enamored me to it. It doesn't like 7/8 ounce light bargain loads, prefers 1 ounce high speed loads. Of course, heavy 2 3/4" steel 3s are KILLER on ducks out of it and it feeds 'em like clockwork. I keep the modified tube in it for ducks (with steel) and doves (7.5 shot 1 ounce lead loads). If it was a fixed choke modified gun and steel compatible, I'd be fine with it. It's a great bird gun, will last many, many years, but it's not an expensive gun at all. Very under rated shotgun IMHO. My main gripe, being a lefty, is the crossbolt safety.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who has commented.I really appreciated it...with the way I traded I have 225.00 in the gun so i'm glad to hear i'm not killed with the trade, like I was with my last trade.I did a little bit of homework this time and with all ya'lls knowledge I feel confident I won't make the same mistake.I got this gun to be my dove hunting gun,and now I feel much better about my decision.Once again thanks to all,and any other comments. P.S. it is a mark II sorry for not mentioning that earlier.
