So for some reason I decided to stop in at a pawn shop that I don't go to very often over my lunch break today. They had a 12 gauge Winchester 97 with probably a 20" barrel that was marked full choke. The wood was so-so and the metal looked like it had been reblued. I've kinda wanted one of these but I've only see the Norinco copies floating around. So what would a reblued original go for? They wanted $799 for this one. I'm guessing this is high since they also wanted $799 for a bubba'd '03 Springfield.

I think pawn shops price things way higher than what they really expect to get. By that I mean, they expect you to haggle em down. Still though, unless it's in great shape, that does sound a little high even as a starting place.

Some people on Gunbroker are pretty proud of their trench guns though.

Pretty high I would say. With the re-blue I would think somewhere around $300.

If you're interested in a '97, I've got one here my dad wants to sell. Mis-matched numbers, repairable crack in the wrist area of stock, 28" full choke. He wants $250.

I've got an original 12-ga. M-97 solid frame with a 28" (?) bbl. (could be a 30"; I'll have to break out the measuring tape) that is in about 95% condition. Stock has original varnish on it and the original butt-plate, original blue. I'm told it was mfg. in the 50's . It could be yours for $800, shipped to your FFL w/a 3-day insp.

I originally bought it for CAS but it's too nice. Woulda' been a shame to cut that barrel. I picked up a beater '97 riot gun to shoot instead.

Regards, Andy

Too darn high, let it pass. If I run across one at a more realistic price, I'll give you a holler.

That's a fools price..

there is no 20" full choke...it's been cut down. Worth maybe $200 or so. There have been really nice clean ones in the shops here for $350-400. Had a re-blued one that was really, really nice for $275, and it sat for 6 months.

they were the big rage a few years ago, but less grown-ups are playing cowperson and native american and the demand has died off

I haven't priced one for awhile but when I was looking in central Ohio, Model 97's' in fair shape (worn metal/finish; small crack in stock; original, no mods) were going for $250

I'll agree with the others, about $300-$400 for a reblue with a cut barrel. Just what the CAS shooters were doing to the poor things.

For the antique gun, the price might be O.K. depending on the appearance and functional condition. So you might get something that is both collectable and useful for sport such as SASS/Cowboy Action Shooting. For a shooter I would purchase a used reproduction in decent condition.
