This rifle was given to me by Bill, a friend of the family whom I have known since I was about 3 years old. He had no sons nor anyone interested in keeping an old .22. When Bill heard I had the collecting bug he passed it on to me.

Bill got it from his father who got it from his father. Bill grew up in the country during the depression, I'm pretty sure this rifle has provided a few meals in its day.

It still shoots just fine for plinking and has a special place in my collection.

Sir;

The gun shown is indeed a Winchester, called a 99. That type of gun was known as the "Boys" & the series started with the model 1900, continued to the 1902, and 1904. The 99 is a variant of the 1902 & was made from 1904 into 1923. If it's in any kind of shape, it's worth several hundred dollars.

Yep - similar to the 190x single shot bolt actions from Winchester. The Thumb Trigger was patented by the then president of Winchester T.G. Bennet.

Online, I have only seen one that looked better than this one.
