I thought I would share my experiences with Winchester ammo and see what others have to say. In 22 rimfire I have a marlin model 60 and a ruger single six "convertible" revolver. I have shot federal bulk, aguila, Remington golden bullet, CCI and Winchester bulk.

the marlin has never had a problem with any of the ammo except the Winchester bulk ammo. that crap jams like you wouldn't believe and had a FTF that I had to use a small knife to get it out. switch back to Remington, aguila, federal ect and shoots like a charm again.

my ruger single six with the 22LR cylinder shoots federal, Remington and aguila like a charm. the Winchester bulk ammo some would go in the cylinder and probably 8 out of 10 wouldn't even go in the cylinder. I noticed with the Winchester the bullets look horrible and inconsistent. Its like as if they were beat into shape with a hammer.

my brother has a hi point 9mm and it will also shoot anything except the Winchester. shoot 1 or 2 then jam and lots of FTF.
I was thinking well maybe its just the low end Winchester and maybe the high end Winchester is good?

So I ran across some Winchester 22mag PDX1 and thought that would be great for my ruger single six with the mag cylinder.
It shoots CCI and Remington ect like a dream. the PDX1 drops in the cylinder fine but turning the cylinder was hard like the rim of the casing was too thick and was dragging against the gun. shot fine but some of it was so bad I could barely turn the cylinder.:banghead: anyone else have that problem? I switched back to CCI and Remington and the cylinder spins free.

One things for sure, I will NEVER buy Winchester ammo again (unless its for my 12 gauge which shoots Winchester without any problems

I have experienced this with my hi point 9mm carbine as well. I can shoot anything off of the shelf except for Winchester. I don't understand it because I can shoot that same Winchester ammo out of any of my other 9mm's with no issues.

After having ammo with dents in it and machine marks right out of box. I won't buy from them again their qc has gone downhill.

Just lucky I guess. I've never had a jam or an ammo failure in my Model 60 shooting Win., Rem., or CCI, mostly Walmart bulk packs. I've never seen any of this defective ammo. My shooting buddy has an old Winchester auto and has identical experience.

I don't buy Winchester bulk .22 ammo anymore due to hard chambering in my rifles. Seems their bullets are a little oversized. I have standard chambers in all my guns too.

The thing that irritated me the most was the PDX1 rounds dragging the cylinder. just when I thought I had experienced everything that could possibly go wrong...

not to mention the bulk pack Winchester not fitting into the cylinder of the 22LR

You know your ammo sucks when a revolver wont even shoot it!

Winchester use this sticky waxy lube that builds up on the mag lips and the feed ramp and revolver chambers and will stop just about any .22 action around.. The best bulk rimfire I have found is Federal. Much better lube. If you're going to run the Winchesters you must clean the action every 400 to 500 rounds. Rimfire ammo produces a lot of ash. Some guns won't tolerate much.

I shoot a LOT of Wal Mart 550 bulk packs in all manner of 22 long guns and handguns. Federal, Remington and Winchester.

Winchester is the worst for jamming.
Remington is the worst for dud rounds (no primer). About 1 in 30 rounds.

Federal is the best of the cheap stuff, not perfect, but not bad for the price.

I don't buy Winchester anymore.

I have many bulk packs of Remington, but won't buy anymore when it runs out.

I have a lot of Federal bulk packs and when it becomes available I'll buy a lot more.

I see this on a couple forums, So there must be something to this. However Winchester is my first pick for all ammo rim-fire,center-fire and shotgun. I have never had any problem with any Winchester ammo in any gun, semi-auto rimfire guns I have used are Browning buckmark, Ruger mklll, S&W M&P 22, S&W 422, S&W 22A, Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22, Remington 597 and Winchester 290. Ammo most used is 555 and Xpert, only use a dry bore snake every 500 rounds and detail clean every 1000-1500 rounds.

I didnt read the whole thread and dont know if you're just talking rifle, but regarding pistol, I will not buy WWB. My sr9 will not fire it and Ruger told me use something else. Winchester replaced the 800 or so rds of it I had, plus some..with an upgrade to a 147 gr.

A friend of mine was trying to sight in his 270 a while back and could not get it to group, all over a target like a shotgun pattern. Another friend went to see if it was the shooter not the gun and got the same results. So I got called since my sons and I all shoot 270's. I brought my favorite load along just in case. First I checked all the screws on the gun and the scope mounts, then I shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards, all over the place, about 8 inches. Then I set up a target at 25 yards and shot 1 shot with my load to see where it hit, made a adjustment and then shot a 3 shot l00 yard group, 1.5 inches. I got him to try my load and he got a similar group so I traded him an equal number of my rounds for the box and a half that he had left of the winchester factory stuff. I figured I would just break down the factory rounds and reload it with my stuff. Easier said than done, tried to pull the bullets with a collet puller, no go. I had to use the inertia puller and bet the stew out of it to get the bullets out. The bullets had a crease where the bullet was forced into the case. Next I weighted the powder, some rounds had more than a grain difference in powder weight. The bulets also were over and under weight. After messing with a few rounds I decided that it would be better to just shoot the crap than try to dismantel. Poor quality control, glad I reload!

Fella's;

This is odd. Winchester just built (maybe 5 or so years back) the newest & supposedly best ammo plant in the U.S. in one of the Gulf Coast States.

I get absolutely great results in several guns with PowerPoints. That's the 40 grain HP that runs 1250 fps over my chrono out of a CZ452 American. Very near high-buck target ammo accuracy. When I get Winchester bulk, either the 333 box or the 555, I notice some degredation in accuracy but none of the problems I see reported here. The last box of 555 was purchased about 2 months ago, so it's recent production ammo too.

The crummy stuff is Remmie Thunderbolt.

I've used Winchester SuperX 22 ammo for years but I began to notice some quality issues about 5 years ago. I find myself using more CCI now along with Federal Bulk which has performed well and less expensive.

my only guess is there letting more crappy rounds out to try and keep up with demand, mine weren't finished tumbled that's for sure.

And, five minutes ago, 5:25PM 8/15/13, I got a phone call that Scheel's here has Winnie PowerPoints in stock. Woo-Hoo! Catch ya later.

Years ago I shot a lot of win bulk 22lr. Opened a new bulk pack of win xpert 22lr and sitting near the top were 2 roofing nails. Many of the rounds had deformed lead. I picked out the best rounds and chunked the rest. Ended up with around 300 shootable rounds. May have been able to shoot the deformed lead and let the chamber swage it down but I didn't chance it.

Haven't bought anything bulk by winchester since, and very little premium ammo.

any brand .22LR is good stuff for the next 2yrs at least ...I buy any brand that I can find

The Winchester .22LR with the uncovered lead or with black coating seem to not be very good. The Winchester 555/333 packages have a few more mis-feeds but are more accurate (for me Ruger 2245 handgun) than Federal 575 bulk packs. The variance from box to box is probably enough to make any casual comparisons less than valid. I have more issues with Remington 22LR but, last two 325 bulk boxes have been good, so maybe they are "improved". In this time of shortage, I will gladly take any of the Winchester 555/333 boxes.

Score! Was allowed to buy two bricks of the PowerPoints today. I'll do some testing to see if these compare with the older stuff I've got, but I ain't afeared. PowerPoints have been consistent for me since they first came out, many lots ago. This may be different, but history is with me.
