Hi guys, my boss asked me to work on his rifle as he knows I enjoy tinkering w/ these things. The problem: The safety fell off his Pre-64 Winchester Mod. 70 .30-06. He managed to find the lever, spring and detent pin. He gave me the bolt w/ out the rifle. with the bolt out of the rifle, there was no way to set the safety to the mid position, thgus the bolt was locked. Vice grips allowed me to separate the firing pin/carrier from the rest of the bolt. Now I can't see any way to disassemble further. I can't find a single good breakdown of this online. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can not see any way of fitting the safety back into it's hole w/ the guts(firing pin holder) still intact. Anyone know of a good link?

EDIT Found a good parts break down and was able to get it- thanks though :)

Thanks for the post. The first link has a much better break down than the one I used. Though w/ out the rifle present I don't see any way of cocking the bolt other than using vice grips. I did of course use a rubber pad to protect the metal. One of the few useful searches I found online was someone who had mentioned that if the bolt was removed w/ out the safety in the correct (mid) position, you would have to cock the bolt by using a vice or grips to overcome the tension of the firing pin spring then and only then could the bolt be cocked and disassembled normally. For future reference I wouldn't mind knowing an easier way to cock the bolt w/ out the rifle. The process seemed a lot like the G3 bolt when you accidentally allow it to close. Though the G3 takes more finesse and less force to accomplish the exact same process. Anyway it turned out well, The safety is re-installed and the bolt is ready to go back into the rifle. I will be sure to inform him to never remove the bolt w/ out the safety in the mid position.
