I have a really nice Winchester 1200. It was manf in the early 70s. Gun is 28in long and has a fixed Mod choke. I love the gun. My question is what do you fellow shot gunners think of the older 1200's? I am not a huge shot gun shooter, so your thoughts are appreciated.

I use it for pheasant season, and for turkey season. I have never had an issue with this weapon. Just would like to hear from more knowledgeable shot gunners then myself.

I had a Model 1200 with a slug barrel "back in the day" as they say. I don't remember how much I shot it, and I know I didn't kill a deer with it, but I don't recall anything about the gun I didn't like.

Today I've got a Sears Model 200, which is a 1200 rebadged to "Sears." It was my father's "turkey shoot" gun back in the day. I don't how many times he shot it, but he won a truckload of turkeys, hams, slabs of bacon, and side bets with it. People would rent the gun from him so they could shoot it. He didn't hunt or shoot, other than the Friday night turkey shoots at the local VFD, and as far as I know, it is the only gun he ever owned.

With a 30", full choke barrel, it would pretty well pepper a card with no 8 shot. I've fired it a few times but never on game.

It doesn't look bad for an almost 40 year old gun. :D

Only recurring weakness I know of is the plastic magazine throat - see part #40102 and 42102 at http://www.urban-armory.com/diagrams/win1200.htm . Just don't use solvents that will damage plastic and it should last a good long time ... longer :D.

They're good guns, I have a 1200, a 1300, a couple of Sears 200s and a FN Police Pump.
