Winchester Model 190 -disassembly ?

First time poster, love this forum, I've learned a lot in a short amount of time.

I have a Winchester semi auto Model 190 .22 Cal rifle from my grandfather. I've recent gotten back into shooting sports (Glock, SW Jframe, Skeet) and want to completely clean this rifle.

I was able to remove the trigger assembly, slide, spring, etc.

Here's where I'm stuck. How do I remove the barrel so I can properly clean it from the breach side vs. the muzzle?

Goto ( www.gun-parts.com ) in the index goto "winchester" then go down the page, there is an exploded diagram for the 190 . You are not dealing with a highly accurate target rifle here and you may do more damage to the rifle by removing the barrel , than you would by carefully cleaning from the muzzle.

I agree. The major problem with that series of rifles seems to be how to keep the barrel tight since Winchester stopped selling the barrel wrenches. If yours is tight I wouldn't touch it.

Many thanks for the advice. I think I'll leave well enough alone. Good news is now I get to shop for a new .22 and am considering a Winchester 9422 for some fun plinking.

Getting a 190 barrel out of the receiver would be a pain. I would not even attempt it on mine! YIKES! Besides, I find the 190 the hardest gun I own to break down and clean.

Now the 9422 is very easy to clean. JUST BE CAREFUL. The interior metal work is very SHARP and easy to really cut yourself badly on this one!

Love the 9422 especially with a good peep sight!
