I have a Winchester model 70 ranger in 30-06. I have never shot it much other than for hunting & really hadn't even been hunting in about the last 6 years until a couple of weekends ago my neighbor messed me up. He asked me to go with him-let me put a stand where I wanted to & I got an 8 pointer. So now I've got the fever again. Anyway this rifle is the youth/ladies model & the stock is uncomfortable for me. I was trying to decide between purchasing a stock for it or maybe just getting a grind to fit recoil pad & putting it between the stock & the original factory recoil pad to try to make the length of pull a little longer. I had found a hogue overmolded stock for about 110 dollars & know I could do the recoil pad thing cheaper. I never worried too much about this as anytime I've ever shot at a deer I don't even feel it kick but 2 or 3 shots at paper I'm done. It would be nice to for this rifle to be a little more comfortable but I really don't want to put a whole lot of money in it. Anyway sorry for the long post. All opinions & information appreciated.

You can do a cheap Ramline stock for about $80.00 + or - or you can haunt the gunshops and gunshows for a take off. Any M70 post 1968 stock will fit, Ranger, XTR or whatever. I have 2 that I put synthetic stocks on , but I'm keeping the original stock for later use.

A lot of stocks filter through ebay.

The critical thing is the center to center measurement between the 2 farthest screws on the bottom metal. And whether the metal is of one pc or two piece design.

MMCSRET I looked at the Ramline stocks on Cabela's & Midway's sites-Cabelas says they are easy install (only a screwdriver necessary) Midway says Bedding is needed-what is your experience with this?
Dryhumor-Thx I'll keep an eye on that too
Thx for the responses guys please keep 'em coming

I have a Ramline on a M70 XTR that I rebarreled to 338-06 with a barrel configured same as original Winchester. The Ramline was on in minutes and has been in use for 15 years. I did not bed it, shoots better than I do. Maybe Ramline has changed and requires bedding. I bought mine when Ramline was in Grand Junction Colorado. And it tames the recoil better than the XTR stock did.
