I picked up a used Savage 12BVSS varmint rifle awhile back and went out to the range this morning to see what it could do. I took a box of 45 grain Winchester White Box, 55 grain Winchester Super X, and 55 grain Hornady V-max. I started out with a 5 shot group of the WWB that measured .64". I gave the barrel about 10 minutes to cool and adjusted the zero on my scope. I shot another 5 shot group of WWB that measured .84 (closest to bullseye). After another 10-15 minutes cool down, I shot a group of the Hornady V-max that measured .58". Finally, I loaded up 5 rounds of the Winchester Super X. The Super X was noticeably louder, and the recoil was more intense. I stopped after 3 shots because I didn't feel right. I actually double checked to make sure the ammo was correct. The 3 shot group was 2.25". Any ideas?

I wsould be interested in know the lot number of this ammo. I posted a few days ago on the reloading forum about 80 rounds of this ammo was apparently so hot that the cass heads expanded enough to make them non-reloadable after their initial firing. They shot okay in my 22-250 but I did have 2 split necks out of the 4 boxes I shot. I called Winchester to see if they had a recall on this ammo but was told no. They did offer to replace any I had remaining but I didn't take them up on it since I only had 2 boxes remaining. I will now buy Privi Partizan and Remington so I can reload the brass.

Mine is 90TH61. They told me it was made in 1990 and couldn't understand how I just purchased it from K-mart.
