The Stars At Night Are Big And Bright....Deep In T
I'm puzzled. I have been trying to find a certain model Winchester shotgun for the last 2-3 weeks. You see I was in our local Cabela's store just looking around. When I got to talking with one of the sales guys. We were shooting sh*t and talking about HD. He suggested this certain Winchester Shotgun. He said Ft. Worth PD uses these exclusively. I can't find it anywhere on the net. I know it had a 18.5" barrel it was a 12 gauge. But other than that I don't remember much else. Help!!!

It was around $399. Which I know is quit a bit for just a HD shotgun. I can't go wrong with a Rem 870 but I really liked this one. And it will probably be my next purchase! :)

Shotgun gods please give me some insight!!

He was probably referring to this:

It's the Winchester 1300 Defender(r). It has an 18" barrel and 8 shot tube, with an MSRP of $341 (cheap!). Here's the Winchester catalog listing for it: http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodinfo/catalog/detail.asp?cat_id=512&type_id=104&cat=012C

Nevermind, that's what i get for opening my mouth before opening my eyes :banghead: . Your right!! I think that is it. And to compound matters Cabelas is selling way over MSRP. Go figure. Anyway do any of you have any other suggestions for a HD shotty, here are the factors.

Has to be 12ga.
Has to be pump action
Min of 6 shells
preffered 18.5" length barrel
wouldn't mind pistol grip
has to be $400 or less

I know, I know this is exactly what you've already postyed but are there other options. Remington doesn't have anything peaking my interest on their website. The Winchester looks great, but is there anything else out there.

Thank though for your answer FKB. :D

According to the Winchester catalog, the 1300 Defender is available with a pistol grip:
Choose from the full stock version with a removable front TRUGLO® fiber optic sight, the pistol grip model, or the combo version with both pistol grip and full stock included.

Here you are, from Mossberg:

#50411 12 ga. 500® Pump Action Persuader®, 6-shot capacity w/ 2 3/4" shells, 3" chamber, blued finish, black synthetic stock,18 1/2" cylinder bore, bead sight barrel, includes Pistol Grip Kit.
..MSRP $357

Have seen on sale as low as $239 locally.

Hmmm can't get the pic copied, info is directly copy-n-paste from Mossberg's website

www.Mossberg.com

The pistol grip is included in the box, takes about 20 minutes to change if you work very slowly...Remove 2 screws holding the butt-plate on, one large screw or hex-head bolt holds the stock on, swap out the PG for the shoulder stock, tighten bolt and you are done .

P.S. if you do install the Pistol Grip, shoot that first with the lightest loads you have. Torque/recoil forces change when using the PG. Oh, yeah, dont try 'wing shooting' with the PG installed by bringing shotty up to about what would be a normal postion if full stock was installed. One of my old shooting budds tried it with his...

Well, lets just say he had a "shiner" for over a week

a friend of mine bought a 1300 defender a little while ago. the only downside is that you can't really change out the barrels as easily as you would on an 870. I think the same is true for the mossbergs with the long mag tubes. i would go with the remington 870 HD, that way you could take off the mag tube extension, slap on a different barrel and go duck hunting or shoot clays or whatever.

Yea, definitely check around online, you're bound to save money.

I have an older 1300 Defender (blued and wood stock) that I picked up used for a song, and like it very much. It's very quick to handle, and the action is smooth and fast. You'll pay for that quickness in extra felt recoil though. (My 870 on the other had is built like a tank relatively-speaking, something the Marine in me appreciates: slower to handle due to the increased weight and overall larger dimensions in barrel thickness, etc., but very, very durable. If I went to war again and had to choose one or the other, the 870 would be my pick for those same reasons. Anything less than combat theatre use however, and I wouldn't have any issue with either one.)

That said, the 1300 Defender is a fine weapon, and I don't think you can go wrong with one.

Hmm, mine comes off with little to no mroe effort than my 870. Go figure.

what i meant was that you would have to change out the mag tube also on the defender because of the way the other 1300 barrels are made. read the whole post next time.
