I was advised last Tuesday that I had the winning bid on this gun, and it arrived last Saturday:

Colt New Frontier, .45 Colt, 7 1/2" barrel.

After a long search, and I'm very pleased with it.

Beautiful Colt, Bob. Hope you got it at a reasonable price. It will enhance your collection I am sure.

Ultra nice! I love Colt SAAs and have always thought of the New Frontier as being the top of the line for that revolver design.

Nice

That is a sweet looking firearm. I have a 5 1/2 inch Blackhawk in .45 Colt. It is one of my favorite handguns.

I always wondered where the Blackhawk design came from. Looks like it was inspired by the Colt New Frontier, or was it the other way around? I would like to have either one of those, very nice indeed.

the Ruger Blackhawk was around about 8 years before the New Frontier was released . The New Frontier actually was the continuation of the rare pre war Flat top target SAA. I have a early 2nd Gen New Frontier 7 1/2" in .44 spl and it is extremely accurate and a sweet heart. For some strange reason the same guns in standard SAA format are worthy a little more used.

The Ruger Single Six was inspired by the Colt Flat Top Target of 1906 or so. The Blackhawk revolvers were introduced around 1956, and were sort of a progression from the Single Six, modified to accommodate an adjustable rear sight, and that beautiful front sight came from Bill Ruger. The New Frontier came out around 1963 or so, not sure of the exact date of introduction.

Here are my Ruger Blackhawk and Colt New Frontier, both in .45 Colt:

I have said at times that my Ruger looks more like an old Colt than the Colt!

I've never been a SA fan, your pistol has me rethinking...very nice.

Never been a SA fan?!?! Maybe a little more persuasion:

Why would he want that? Hit everywhere BUT the orange dot!:neener::D (I know, must be the early-morning coffee!)

Awesome Colt. Hope to have one someday. congrats!

That's the advantage of adjustable sights. In this first group, with the exception of the one wild shot, notice how the group is over to the right:

But then, after cranking in a little left windage:

Well it's nice to see that your Blackhawk doesn't have to take a back seat to your New Frontier in the accuracy department. Plenty of room at the table for two great shooting .44 Specials.

MUCH better Bob! :D

I HOPED you understood I was just pullin' yur leg! Would STILL love to own a SAA Colt one day. Case-hardening is just the colorful icing on the cake. That said, is the case hardening a REAL case hardening or a coating like Ruger did for a while?

I'm a single action fanatic.

When Bob or CraigC start posting pics, I admit, I immediately start committing the sin of covetousness. I just can't help it.

Understood.

And, so far as I know, the Colts are genuine case hardening.

Ruger did a chemical process on the Vaquero for awhile. Doug Turnbull does a color case process that is a heat process that does not surface harden the steel. He does have to ability to do surface hardening, though.
