I am trying to round up attendees for a Defensive Shotgun Training class (pistol and carbine to follow) somewhere in Western North Carolina (exact location TBD). I have talked Defensive Concepts of North Carolina into coming up here to do a class or three as long as there is sufficient attendance. They limit the class to 10 people so that each student gets plenty of personal instruction (3 instructors). A server is down right now so I can't provide ALL of the info (will do that ASAP).
Basically a "8" hour class (that I've read turns into 10-12 depending)
425 round ammo requirements (325 bird shot, 50 slugs, and 50 buck IIRC) :)
Shotgun with sling required
Possibly a sidearm/holster requirement as well.
$140 dollars to attend.

I will post credentials and reviews as soon as I can get to them. All of the reviews are glowing. I will also post the official requirements too.

I am still trying to nail down a nice outdoor range if anyone wants to help with that as well. I feel that there is a serious lack of defensive training in this area. I thought this might help. I'm thinking having the class later in the summer (July or Aug) will provide time for good coordination and proper scheduling.

PM me if you have an interest in this. I might not always remember to check this thread but I check PM's almost everyday.
Thanks!

Okay, the other forum came back up (this was all in my messages there). Here is what I have so far. Two links to reviews and feedback about the classes and also a little background info on all 3 instructors.

When it comes to what made us get into training it is very simple. All three of us have had numerous classes in the past and recognized that there really wasnt an affordable firearms training program in NC that was targeted primarily toward the prepared citizen. We also got into teaching concealed carry classes because the classes that we all had were rather "lacking". We figured if we pooled our expereince and knowledge, we could easily offer something we see is unique.... affordable, quality training. Cool

On the background front here is an overview of each of us: (Paul's and Steve's description comes from a handout of ours)

Paul is a Clinical Engineer in the Charlotte, NC area. He has been an avid shooter since serving in the 82nd Airborne. He is a North Carolina State Certified Concealed Carry Handgun Instructor and an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor. He is SWAT and Advanced SWAT trained. He is also Certified as a Basic Instructor for ALS Less Lethal. Paul has received many hours of tactical firearms training from Instructors such as James Yeager, Andy Stanford, and Bill Gallagher. Paul is part owner and an Instructor for Defensive Concepts North Carolina. Paul is a former Firearms Instructor for Tactical Response and has trained numerous Military personnel, members of Law Enforcement and Civilians.

Steve is a Radiology Engineer in Charlotte, NC. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, in which he served as an Infantryman. He has been an avid shooter and has strived to expand existing skills by seeking additional tactics training. Steve has attended multiple pistol and rifle courses, has completed SWAT and Advanced SWAT training, is a North Carolina Certified Concealed Carry Handgun Instructor, a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor, a Certified NRA Range Safety Office, and has attended Firearms Instructor Development Courses. Steve has had many hours of tactical firearms training from James Yeager, Greg "Sully" Sullivan, and Bill Gallagher. Steve is part owner and an Instructor for Defensive Concepts North Carolina. He is a former Firearms Instructor for Tactical Response and has trained numerous Military and Law Enforcement personnel and Civilians in the United States and Canada.

As for me, I work with a large LE agency here in NC where I work in a special operations unit which is detailed with tasks such as arresting violent felons and serving high risk search warrants. I am a certified General, Subject Control and Arrest Tactics, and Concealed Carry instructor through the state of NC. I have instructor certification from the NRA in basic pistol, basic rifle, personal protection inside the home, NRA Law Enforcement pistol, and NRA Law Enforcement shotgun disciplines. Other instructor certifications I hold include: Lowlight tactics - Surefire and Team One Network (2 seperate), OC/Pepperspray - Armor Holdings, and my martial art certs (empty-hand, stick, knife, gun). Prior to joining the LE community I spent 8 years in the Army and National Guard. On active duty I worked as an infantryman with the 82nd Airborne and was also on the Army TaeKwonDo team. Some of the people I have trained with over the years in firearms material include: Ken Hackathorn, Larry Vickers, Scott Reitz, Jeff Gonzales, Paul Howe, Blackwater, Surefire Institute, Tactical Response, and others.

As you can see, we have a great deal of expereince and knowledge to offer. As you have seen in the reviews of our classes, we believe in a high degree of interaction with the students and try to keep the classes entertaining.

Chris

Well there you have it. Sounds like these are some really fun, and most importantly, informative classes. Keep the PM's coming!

These guys sound super qualified.
I wonder if they'd be interested in doing a Concealed Carry class in WNC, or a basic defensive handgun class.

Shotgun class sounds neat, but the IRS just cleaned me out.

CC classes are pretty easy to find around here...
On Target in Asheville does one all the time. They are on Sat (8 hour class) and it doesn't cost a whole lot (can't remember). That class is so boring in NC though. They found the man with the most boring voice in the world and had him narrate both videos. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I know it's a little expensive guys but there are a lot more costly classes out there. C'mon!

Okay so AR15.com is beating the crap out of THR on this matter (3 interested over there in one day as opposed to one here in a week). Are we going to let that happen?

I attended this class when they ran it in April. I also posted the review at arf.com, and I've got a longer review on my blog.

I would drive to Asheville from Winston-Salem and pay the tuition to take this class again, if there's space available. No kidding.

Now we're talking!
Any others that are interested please email me at
[email protected]
I will not be sending any PM updates since I'm posting on two forums. I'll post updates on the threads and send out an email. I hope to be setting a date this week. We'll see how that works out. :)
