I just checked online for the status of my Texas CHL.

According to DPS:

Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

Now, I just need to wait for the actual license to arrive in the mail.

I think it's awesome. You just can't beat the Hamster Dance.

Seriously though, good for both of you on the CHLs!

Congratulations!

If I can save enough money next month I'm going to start the application process for my Colorado Permit to Free Speech... er, wait a second...?

I just had a thought -- now that I know the license is issued, though I don't have it yet, if I get stopped for a traffic violation by the police, they will see I have it, right? So I should notify them I know it's been approved, but haven't actually received it yet?

Congratulations!

POI: In Colorado it has to be in your possession when bearing under cover. Along with another ID.

Don't do anything that would result in getting pulled over (until you get the actual permit) and you won't have to worry. :D

Actually, you don't need to worry; they know you don't have it in your possession yet.

It comes in an envelope that's specially designed to give you a paper cut when you open it. When you withdraw the license, it will absorb a small sample of blood from the paper cut and process it for DNA and identification. The next time you are within 150 feet of any government vehicle, a micro-rf transmitter within the card will transmit your data and confirmation of your possession of the license to the Central Univac Machine via the government vehicle's On-board Network.

From that point on, you'll need to let them know you're packing.

Congrats Arrogant! When did you send out your app?
We are waiting on my wife's... she's already looking for goodies!

Whatever you do, please do not carry until it is on your person. If you do get stopped and you do not have it with you but are carrying, you may be in a whole heap of trouble!

i can't believe nobody have say it yet.... first congratulations..welcome to the Texas CHL family... and now remember to do the Wally walk when you get it :D Have fun!!!

I sent in my application around April 15, 2008.

Recieved a letter back from DPS dated May 30 that they had my application in the system, with PIN to check statud online.

Checked status once a week until Friday, when it said APPROVED.

The actual license arrived today -- apparently TX DPS hired more temps, because everybody told me to expect another 2 months wait before it arrived.

Thanks, everybody for congrats. Plan to take Wally World Walk tonight, as I need to restock ammo used this weekend, anyway.

And I celebrated by going to Midway USA and getting a dual magazine pouch for my Glock 30, a Desantis Superfly pocket holster for my S&W 640, and a pair of speed strips for same.

At some point, I will also buy a nice holster for the 1911, too.

Remember when Americans prized their rights instead of celebrating when government gave them a license to do something they already have the right to do.

Visitors to Vermont and Alaska celebrate in the way free men celebrate (i.e. no time for congratulations, too busy enjoying my rights).

I bet you're the kind of person who would point out that I shouldn't be excited about a tax refund, as it was my money to begin with. :p

Pretty much. I'm just putting some perspective back into this thread. Take your new permit, go to Vermont or Alaska, stare at that expensive permit while you're there as you carry your gun, then ask yourself while looking at the permit, "what did I just pay for?"
