So I was on my way to the range. I haven't gotten my CCL yet, as I don't intend to CC until I am more proficient. The law allows you to transport in the trunk of your car, unloaded. So I had it in the trunk of my car unloaded, but I have a hatchback, that has storage under the floor. I had it under the stroage area, since the hatch area is accessible from the front of the vehicle, figuring that is the closest to a "trunk" that I have.

Well I was in a car accident. I am new to the area and my husband's car has a dead battery/not registered/inspected.....so he couldn't come and get me, and I had no one else to give me a ride. The officer said that they had a tow truck coming and they would give me a ride home. So at this point, I had to tell them that I had my gun in the car, so I knew what to do about it. The officer asked me where it was, and I showed him. He then asked if I had a permit....I told him no, and the law as I knew it as well as where I obtained that information from. He then told me that it was CONCEALED. He then walked away to talk to another officer. I was already a nervous wreck from the accident, I was crying and hyperventilating...... and now I was having visions of either being arrested or having my gun confiscated and right to own revoked. I was freaking out. LUCKILY, the other officer was more familiar with the laws, and told the other officer that I was in fact with in the law, and I was good to go. Despite the fact that I was legal, this has prompted me to get my CCL now anyways, I don't want to be on the other end of an un-informed LEO and have to deal with any added frustrations. The CCL is easy enough to get here, I'm done procrastinating!

Yes, a license makes it easier to transport, but what I really like is the "cash 'n carry" purchases. I must have one of those names that is the same as several felons because I have always been delayed at least two days by NICS. (At least my middle name is not Wayne.)

Anyway, may not be applicable in your state, but it is sure a nice benefit.

Hmmm, I wonder now, that might be why my shotgun approval got delayed. In NH we don't need a federal check for handguns, but we do for long barrels. I had no problem with the state check for my handgun, but when they did the federal check for my 12 gauge it was delayed, that was really perplexing because I have never had anything more than a traffic ticket. It was approved, so I can't request a reason for the delay..... which sucks, because I would like to know.

Purchase delay

Moi - call the Feds that handle the Brady. Ask them to send you a form that you can file to get the reason for the delay. I'm in Nevada, and this state does its own check, so I cant help you with a phone number.

its probably just the overload from craploads of people buying long guns (AR 15 and Saiga and AKs and anything semi auto with detachable mag)
