So I was on my way to the range. I haven't gotten my CCL yet, as I don't intend to CC until I am more proficient. The law allows you to transport in the trunk of your car, unloaded. So I had it in the trunk of my car unloaded, but I have a hatchback, that has storage under the floor. I had it under the stroage area, since the hatch area is accessible from the front of the vehicle, figuring that is the closest to a "trunk" that I have.
Well I was in a car accident. I am new to the area and my husband's car has a dead battery/not registered/inspected.....so he couldn't come and get me, and I had no one else to give me a ride. The officer said that they had a tow truck coming and they would give me a ride home. So at this point, I had to tell them that I had my gun in the car, so I knew what to do about it. The officer asked me where it was, and I showed him. He then asked if I had a permit....I told him no, and the law as I knew it as well as where I obtained that information from. He then told me that it was CONCEALED. He then walked away to talk to another officer. I was already a nervous wreck from the accident, I was crying and hyperventilating...... and now I was having visions of either being arrested or having my gun confiscated and right to own revoked. I was freaking out. LUCKILY, the other officer was more familiar with the laws, and told the other officer that I was in fact with in the law, and I was good to go. Despite the fact that I was legal, this has prompted me to get my CCL now anyways, I don't want to be on the other end of an un-informed LEO and have to deal with any added frustrations. The CCL is easy enough to get here, I'm done procrastinating!
