MANILA - A suspected carjacker was shot and killed by an armed car owner in La Loma district, Quezon City on Monday night.

Chief Inspector Richard Fiesta of the Quezon City Police District Station 1 identified the slain suspect as Redentor Fajardo, a resident of Barangay Subic, Baliuag in Bulacan province.

Fiesta said Fajardo and three other armed carjackers forcibly took a Nissan Ford Explorer from its owner on Sta. Catalina Street, La Loma.

The car owner, who requested not to be named, said he was about to drive his vehicle into their garage when Fajardo and three other gunmen appeared.

He said his wife handed over to him his clutch bag containing his firearm right after their vehicle was forcibly taken. He said he chased the carjackers on board his own vehicle and killed Fajardo in a shootout.

Fajardo was still slumped near the Ford's driver's seat when found by policemen. His companions were able to escape.

Seized from Fajardo were a cellular phone, .45 caliber pistol, a two-way radio and a fake police identification card.

Police said Fajardo's group was also involved in several carjacking incidents in Quezon City. With a report from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News

Louisiana has a Shoot the Carjacker law. It has been used several times. With guns in the majority of the cars, it is easy to pop a perp trying to take a car.

Yep. I noticed that, too.
So don't feel too bad when the media gets it wrong about guns. They get it wrong about everything.

Given the dateline, I'd guess QC is Quezon City, Philippines Islands ( http://www.quezoncity.gov.ph/ ) Suffice it to say that 'things are different there.'

I'd advise not following the course of action described in the article above in any jurisdiction in the US...

Good advice Lee, for the US of A.

Chasing down a carjacker here in America, "It is only a car, you have insurance" not so in other parts of the world.

Our only justification would be if an other family member was taken with the vehicle.

+1

A U.S. Marine in the neighboring town with a CCL was mugged and carjacked less than a month ago. He shot at them as they drove away in his car. I believe one of the scum was wounded. The Marine's friend followed the car and notified police. The scum were arrested along with the Marine. Somehow you can't shoot someone as they run away, even though they threatened your life with a gun...

Unless I'm about to be shot , the 3 armed a-holes can keep my car if they're fleeing. I live in Louisiana and we have the Castle Law. You can shoot someone trying to steal your car, breaking down your door or even breaking into your car to steal it without being in the car yourself,if I'm not mistaken.

Unless my life or my family in is IMMINENT danger, then I DO NOT shoot. They can have my car. Their lives are not worth it, not to mention the after math of civil suits, lawyers, policemen that you will have to deal with.

Where the hell did my post go? Seriously? What the... is that?

Someone likes deleting my posts for no reason on this forum. I kinda see why .us was created.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I wrote smething here yesterday, now it's gone. Don't tell me it's an Internet coincidence.

I feel your pain, Artiz! But, with me, I find that a lot of times I'll write something up, and then I'll hit the "back" button instead of the "post" button, so it's usually my own fault.

Too many dead brain cells, the two I have left have to work too hard.

No, you don't shoot a fleeing felon. BUT, in the case of a carjacking, the perpetrator has already demonstrated a lack of concern for the safety of others, and you have no idea what he will use that car for. If I can prevent him from driving away I will.

Uhh Tennessee v Garner speaks of not shooting fleeing felons if they are involved in non-violent property-only crimes. This would most certainly NOT fall into that category. It also pretty mcuh applies to LEOs, not civilians...

On a personal note, one more bad guy dead makes my night a little better =)
