Just curious as to what amount of firearms people he purchase a year. I've used a system that allows me a set amount to play with. Each paycheck, I take out $60-80 and put it in the "gun fund" periodical bonus checks go there also. I normaly have a particular model in mind ahead of time. This allows me 2 - 3 brand new guns a year. Anyone else have "gun fund " savings plan?

Every spare dime that doesn't go to hookers and applebees.

Just kidding, Been doing layaway it keeeps the pain down. the instant gratification is not there though.

...is there instant gratification from the hookers?:p

as far as DINK...as nice as it sounds (and once was for myself), I wouldn't trade my litle buddy for anything. hope you find time to give each of those 5 new pieces a fair amount of time. :)

my buys were an exception. i bought 2 guns and turned them around the next weekend for $150 gain and sold another, which went to fund #3. with $ left from this deal, i traded a gun that i had and $100 for #4 and #5 is a staright out buy. most of my funds are from saving my allowance, bonues and overtime. had 2 - 70+ hour weeks which is the reason for my buys this month.

Charge it (them).

Pay it (them) off.

Buy more.

I average about one every 1.5 months or so. If I see a good deal, I try to pick it up. Saving for a big purchase (Thompson) is a bit hard for me. Thank goodness for credit and my current 0% APR, and thankfully, I have enough control now to keep it in check. Unlike in college, where the card was free money that I never paid attention to until I was paying it off big time later. I learned my lesson young and with only a $300 balance.

You call that a moneypit? I have a 83 Mercedes-Benz 380 SEL, and it is nickeling and diming me to death. I only have a 500/mo income, and I need a $500 part the size of a roll of quarters. It still goes, but it complains about it sometimes. It also has other problems, but for less money. You try owning a 20-yr old S-class Benz and see how much else you can afford, when you are still making $200/mo payments.

I apologize for the rant. It was not meant to sound like it was against someone.

Mike, what gives? You call yourself MOPARmike, and yet you drive a 20 year old Mercedes? :uhoh: I would've seen you driving a Detroit product man.

Just funnin' with ya Mike.

Been there myself...saved for my second year in college and before it came due, I had spent it. :uhoh: (thank goodness for Discovercard) I had a $200+ truck payment then too. Anyways, don't get yourself too discouraged. I saw bill after bill and had very litle time other than work and school. Well, it's been 5 or 6 yrs since school and it all worked out. New wife, new house, new son and two new vehicles. Sure at times money is still tight but it'll all work out in the end. Just hang in there. Oh...no guns were sold in this entire process:)

As far as vehicles being a moneypit. I'm in the process of up-fitting my Jeep for a little aggressive traveling. $800 tires/wheels, plus another $200-300 for other items. All just to get from here to there via the not-so-often-traveled ways.

Moparmike,
I know just what you mean. I just got rid of my 1979 300 SD. I had it for 20 years and it had been a good car. The only problem was I paid for it twice when you add the price they charge for the parts.

Lawaway makes things easy. 20% down, 90 days to pay it off, I try to pay at least $100 a week. At this rate, I've got about another 6 weeks before I get to play with my Bushmaster :D

Unless I have a really, really good week at work and/or any bonuses roll in, I usually don't buy right at the moment; it hurts me to plunk down that kind of money in one fell swoop. My first four guns, I bought in a period of about 6 or 8 months.

Next will be either a Benelli or a P7M8 :)

Got both, I'd go with the P7M8 personally. Also, regardless of what rumors there are, according to the fellow at HK I spoke with last week, there are no plans on stopping the importation of this model.

Yeah, I would love to have an old one. A friend of mine has a 74 Dodge Coronet, just like the one my mom had. We nearly got into a fist fight over it when we found out the price he wanted for it ($100, and we think it's 74000 miles are ORIGINAL :what: :what: :what: )

I call myself that because I was a mopar fan before I got the benz. I lucked into the benz, as it was less than $4000 and had been owned by doctors all of its pampered 195k miles. Its a great car, but its hell on one's wallet.

Wait, Majic. You got rid of an SD? What was wrong with it? If you had the valve train and timing chain looked after regularly, along with regular maintenance, that engine will go thru 3 bodies as they rust away! You could have put a million miles on it and it would have kept chugging away!:banghead: Oh well, the body parts are too expensive for that kind of stuff anyway.

Anyway, to make this gun-related, I am looking at a Ruger 77 (not a mark 2) close by. It seems like a good deal, and I hope to save up some money for it.

Yall have a good one.

I have a gun fund, pretty much like yours. About 50 bucks a paycheck (every other week) goes in plus any surplus cash left in between. I have purchased 3 guns this year. The last one didn't come out of the fund, it went on a Galyan's %10 off no interest no payments for a year card.

I think I will have to start calling it something other than "gun fund" since flashlights, knives, multi-tools and anything else I can't somehow justify out of regular budget comes out of it as well.

It's amazing how much more "economical" I can be when there is something at the top of my list I want really bad :D

I've been averaging about one a month

Of course I have a love for greasy old war relics that cost me less than a C note each. Paid more for my safe than I did for the 12 rifles inside.

The P7 will probably happen first, especially if this lovely :cuss: state of Georgia issues my CCW anytime soon. I handled one at a gunshow a couple weekends ago, now I'm hooked.

Just means I get more Christmas cards from the gunstore this year ;)
