Yellow powder

I had a few similar looking events using Re#7, WW Large rifle primers in some trapdoor loads with a 45/70. Some did not fire and some hangfired. I pulled those that that did not fire and the powder looked just like that. As these were virgin brass I always figured that there was some oily contamination in the new brass. The loads always worked fine when loaded after that. Looks like I might have just had some bad primers?

You probably had some contamination in the case. I had this happen to me once maybe 30 years ago in a .357 mag load using 2400. The primer drove the bullet into the barrel and the powder was spilling out behind it. The only thing I could figure out was I must have got some of the case lube inside the case. I was using steel dies and RCBs lube pad with RCBs lube that had the consistency of thick syrup.

There isnt anything in the cases.I use one shot then trimmed and tumbled again to get the lube off. Verrry fine corncob media. I use a rotary case/media separator. Not a chance of contamination. Like i said, the fired primers hardly look like they've been used. The regular small rifle and mag primers both work fine.
I called Wolf ammo today. Most of the people are at the shot show but they will pay Powder valley to send me different primers. (mags) They said they will have me destroy the 5000 (4900 now) i have. That could be fun!
