The last of the Clip-on Wheel Weights (CWW) 1001 The last of the CWW.JPG
Probably 75-ish pounds, already sorted. More than likely, and sadly, the last I will ever get - aside from the odd one or two I find laying around.

And, from an older fella that will not be casting anymore, some purchased CWW ingots-
1002 Some purchased ingots, ~50lbs per bucket.JPG

Each of the ingot buckets are roughly 50 pounds, and I had 3 others that I had already moved and wasn't moving back to pose the pic. I need to render and clean the CWW, and also render the purchased ingots. They don't look all that well done to me, so I'll do it over. I want to ingotize (is that a word?) all this into my standard, and stack-able, ingot.

Load the rendering pot, and start the heat. Whilst it is heating up I can set up all the other tools needed.

Getting there -
1007 450+ and climbing.jpg

I heat it to about 600*, to keep from melting any zinkers that I missed. The Zn melts at about 750. I found 3 this time, despite my best efforts.

Making lead soup.

Hours later, after melting, fluxing with oiled sawdust, reducing with wax -
80 bricks, about 2.25-2.5 pounds each. Quart oil bottle added for perspective.
1003 80 bricks.JPG

51 more laid out under the fan, cooling.
1004 51 more bricks laid out to cool.JPG

These 51 marked and ready to stash.
1005 51 bricks stacked.JPG

Good enough for a mornings' work. I have another ~150 pounds to do, then about 75 pounds of range lead. When I get it all cleaned up and ingotized (really, is that a word?) I can stop tripping over the dang buckets all over.
When I get the rest set up and stacked, I'll snap a pic of my stash.

Wow!

I melted yesterday too. A few handfuls of Clip on wheel weights in the Lee 10lb pot. Now I remember why I made a rule of not going from WW straight to pot. DIRTY!

I did enough just to fill it up. Gonna try to cast some 230gr Lee TC and some 100gr RN Lee for the .380.

I played poker in a dirt floor barn like that!

Neighbors think your melting silver and will be back later

That looks like a good days work! I really like those ingot molds! If I didn't already have a half dozen of the Lyman style molds I would buy a half dozen of those! Don't give up on wheelweights, they are still out there. Back around 2017 or 2018 I had a guy answer a "want to buy" ad that I was running for a bullet mold and ended up buying 3 or 4 molds and 5600# of sorted wheelweights from him. Me and a buddy spent a couple of days melting those down!

I was in on the very first group buy on CastBoolits, back several years ago.
It was a long wait; the design was being finalized, and he had to get enough purchasers to meet the minimum.
I don't think this design is available anymore, I think he went with the Redneck Gold design for subsequent castings.
I don't remember what I paid for these, but now they are $30 each, plus freight. I have 8 of them, and I'm glad I use that many.

I still have several of the 1-lb RCBS and LYMAN moulds, but I don't use them much anymore. These are so much more convenient, and very stackable.

You said the buckets were 25 lbs. that is at that height I guess. Any idea what a full bucket weighs? I have lots of full buckets but I’ve never weighed them.

I can't lift a five gallon bucket when it's full of lead, and suspect something would have broken had I been strong enough. I figure 150 to 200 pounds at least.

Yeah, I would bring them home a little full and then bring home other ones and keep filling them until they were all the way full

My most recent Rotometals order was 70 pounds of 1-16, which was enough for free shipping, and came in a surprisingly small package. I happened to be out in the shop when the USPS gal stopped by, and she asked if I'd mind getting it out of the truck for her!

I ingotized about #150 last week of ww for my 357. I need to do another #100 for my 38, then my last #400 for my 9’s and then I’m done. I’ll be casting for a few weeks before the heat sets in, I get chilled easily and just couldn’t do it last winter.

I was on the porch casting a wee bit this last weekend, not very much, but some - fresh wheelweight ingots from a buddy. Not like THAT stash, though! :p
