You’re limited to 8 rounds, what’s your choice?

Title says it. Let’s say government restricts you to 8 rounds. So... 7 in the mag and 1 in the pipe, or 8 rounds max in a revolver. Mags modified to only take 7 rounds on originally higher cap mags.

Do the Glock boys still pack a Glock? Do the 9mm boys stick with it? Do the auto boys stick with an auto?

Curious as to what everyone chooses.

Me, I stick with a wheelgun mostly. Ruger Blackhawk most of the time and a smith N frame, 24 or 25 for other times. Throw in a spicing of 1911 in 45 auto and we are close... might as well have a cheap plinking option, I’ll take a smith 39 (modified mags to only take 7).

Rock Island 1911 in 10mm. This firearm is already on my short list to get into the 10mm market. If I were suddenly restricted to 8 rounds, this would jump to the very top of the list. Either the full size 5" barrel or 4.25" compact. I'd be good with either.

Reason being I am used to 1911s and the 10mm to offset the limited magazine capacity.

I've never felt under powered carrying 7 or 8 rounds. Carried a full size 1911 45 acp for over 36 years and than I begin to have a mid-life crisis and switched to a 686+ because I fell in love with the looks of the 3" barrel. I'm okay with either caliber.

Pics or it didn't happen. 686+ is a great handgun.

I would probably carry one of my cheaper, errr inexpensive guns if limited to 8.My Astra A75 would be my pick, totally reliable so far, great DA trigger, and it's small enough not to bug me too much:

In a revolver, I would probably carry my Taurus 658. 8 shot .357 3", and a sorta rare non-ported barrel. Most of the ones I've ever seen were ported.

I would and have carried my Taurus PT111 G2 a few times, but if I had to choose, the Astra would be my choice. Solid steel and that great trigger and if I lost it, I wouldn't be all that upset. They are on GB all the time, but whoever worked on that trigger made that gun a great one.

On principle alone, I would not carry a handgun originally designed for more than 7 rounds.
What do I have that meets the 7 + 1 restriction as it was originally designed?
Primary handgun = 1911 in 45 acp (+2 spare mags; I might not need one excepting malfunction, but I'm carrying two anyway)
2nd gun (AKA "back-up") = Kahr PM9 in weak hand front pocket

OP macabre hypothetical restriction did not prohibit spare mags nor 2nd guns, so I get both.
I've got a Ed Brown, Dan Wesson Valor and Ruger 1911's in 45 acp - I've carried them in the past with 7 round flush fit mag as I found them to be 100% reliable whereas 8 round flush fit not always; so, I carried with a flush fit 7 round. Spare mags were 8 round with the bumper extension, would just go with 7 flush fit in this thread.
The PM9 is already in my weak hand pocket; a 2nd gun AKA "back-up" has nothing to do with area, perceived/anticipated threat, what is about is options, the option to put my hand on it without revealing I'm carrying and/ or quick access with weak hand; those options are desirable anywhere, everywhere.

Revolver? Nope. Compare with shot timer. Most people will have quicker subsequent shots and quicker reloads with a semi.

I already own a pair of choices. 6+1 or 7+1 mags in the G36 or 6+0 in the 66. Would I like a revolver with 8 rounds of .357? Absolutely.

This is part of the reason 1911s became so popular in the 90s. They’ve always been popular but add a capacity ban that robbed 9mm of one of its biggest draws, and suddenly the “combat optimized” 1911 was a very compelling choice for many gun guys.
