stinger . ANY .30-06 round is good out to 250 y and more. You have to be up to the task, but you won't find a .30-06 round that will fail out that far. Some might not give you the exact results you are expecting, but they will all do admirably. The .30-06 is good out to 500-600y if you are. If you aren't expecting to shoot more than 100y, get the cheapest thing your gun will shoot well... it isn't going to matter. If you are shooting out at 600y, then you need to think more about bullet selection.
Well at 100 yards when sighting in different weights of the same 30.06 in same brand like Remington Core Lok will give you different settings. So you should sight in either 125,150, 165, 180 or 220 grain bullet because each one will shoot differently or sight in whatever the rifle likes the best?

If you can't hit a deer in the vitals with both at 100 yards, you have bigger problems than bullet selection!

i picked barnes tsx because that is what i use and it works 8 years agao i shot a cow elk with nostler partition and had zero expansion luckly it hit the heart the exit hole was the same size as the entrance hole serria game king is ok i shot my mtn goat with them but i cant load fullhouse loads with the game king in my 375 rum the bullet is not strong enough

I like the Nosler Partion because my first hunt using them they proved themself. At 85yrds I kiilled a 8 point Whitetail with a 60gr .223 out of an AR15(it's legal in La.) he died in his foot prints. Next day 9am 140yrds 6 point same result. I won't pretend to be a ballistician but the meat in the freezer is proof enough. btw My normal Deer rifle is a .308 Rem bolt gun.

I keep hearing of this Nosler round or bullet type. Can this be purchased at a store or is it specifically a handloaded item only?

stringer - you can buy premade ammo from nosler. You can buy federal ammo with nosler partitions, as well as nosler custom ammo. Neither are in a price range you are shopping in. Both run $40 plus a box. There are several different types of bullet put out by nosler. One is called the CT, and is sold in preloaded by winchester, again its a $40 a box bullet. They tend to grenade at close distances or at high velocities... but are great at longer distances. The nosler ballistic tips are in the same gategory (and run about the same per box) and are sold by federal. Partitions are a tougher bullet that hold together better, but they are generally 50 a box or more. Federal makes some bullets with them preloaded. Go to www.nosler.com. It will answer your questions. Go to www.federalpremium.com and browse the product lines to see what they offer. Same with winchester, I don't know the url off the top of my head.

Thanks for the info. I don't know enough about Nosler but it sounds to me it is a type of bullet and cartridge. (Nosler partitions?)

nosler is a company. Partitions are one of their products. Nosler makes brass and projectiles. When people talk about nosler partitions, BT, CT, etc.. they are talking about projectiles unless they are talking reloading components and specifically mention that they are talking about the brass. They generally make good, expensive, and reliable bullets but you have to use the right bullet for the right situation. The partition is their first design that they came out with and it will do the job. Then again, under 100y, just about anything will.

Years ago, when I hunted deer, I used 170gr Rem CoreLokt bullets in my .30 WCF Marlin 336c. Any problems I had were my fault, not the bullet. Any of the bullets listed here, plus many others, will work just fine. Bullet placement, not bullet name, is what matters. Always has, always will.

this poll is 2 month old :) does anyone uses HPBT bullets on big game I'm talking about 168 gr SMK or 175 gr SMK

It used to be the Nosler Partition but now I have switched to the Winchester xp3. I really like it in my 270 with 150gr bullets.

I voted for nosler partition but my favourite big game bullet was, until very recently, the federal trophy bonded bear claw (30.06 spr, 180gr). Now it’s the federal trophy tip, also bonded and with a polymer tip.

I used nosler partition when the trophy was out of stock. When hitting hard bones the second half of the lead jumped out of the jacket several times, lol. Good accuracy, though.

You can see that nosler partition doesn’t have the lead cores (in front and in the rear) bonded to the jacket, so sometimes the lead will vanish clean upon impact, leaving only the copper to be found. But the H structure is great (and very simple to make, I suppose).

My favorite big game bullet is the Barnes TSX. They are accurate, penetrate deeply, retain weight well and best of all, kill quickly. I've used them for deer, moose and black bear. I've also used a variety of other bullets such as Nosler Partition, Winchester Fail Safe, Speer HotCor, Sierra GameKing, Hornady InterLock, Winchester Silvertips and Remington Coe Lokt. In my experience the Barnes TSX is just plain better than all of them.

How long has the Remington Core Lokt been in use?
The deadliest mushroom in the forrest.
