the title says it all - who would recommend as the best maker/brand/site for purchasing a belt to use with CCW?

I've been using the Ares Gear Aegis Belt for the past few months and am extremely happy with it! It's a great every day belt with infinite size adjustment and doesn't look overly tactical.

The 5.11 tdu looks interesting too or the price point. But I have no personal experience with it.

the Bianchi B29 leather belt is what I wear to work. It's a good sturdy leather belt. I might eventually get a Kramer Handgun Leathar horsehide belt to go with my Kramer holsters.

Bottom line is get the Aries Aegis Belt!

If you're just starting out, I'd get a Wilderness 5-Stitch Instructor belt, either the regular or Frequent Flyer model

The Wilderness Tactical http://www.thewilderness.com/tactical-belts/

or a Talon Tactical ring belt https://www.talontactical.com/belt-ring-buckle-p-1126.html

Both are fairly inexpensive, good quality, and very adjustable. All are good things for everybody, but especially when you are just starting out.

If you want leather, I'd get a belt from whoever you buy your holster from.

Post #3 nailed it. There are other good belts out there and we all have our favorites. But when push comes to shove, every gunbelt wishes it was a Wilderness. Best part? They also cost less than most of their competitors. For 40-something dollars you can buy a gunbelt that will last a decade or more of daily use.

Of the ones I have used, I recommend:

Beltman Horsehide: Been working great. Looks good.
Wilderness Tactical: I like the Frequent Flyer, myself.
GreyGhostGear: They have a 1.5" belt with a cobra buckle that has been working out well.

I bought two Galco leather gun belts in 1995 and they show no signs of slowing down; I wear the black one 90% of the time, too. They don't look new, but nothing has ever broken, unraveled, come apart or torn.

I have two of these - The embossed horsehide & a thinner one for carry: Both are custom made, reasonably priced & works of art. Both belts arrived in FIVE DAYS!! Strangers have asked me, "Where did you get that belt?"

My opinion: when you carry concealed, often the only thing visible that might indicate "gun" is the buckle of your belt. I try to stay away from anything that looks like it's military issue or made for "tactical" use and stick to a simple prong, bar and frame. Others may disagree. Either way, I think the belt you practice with is the belt you should also wear when you are out and about in your daily life.

I think that's a valid point if you're cover garment is a sport coat or suit jacket. A "tactical" belt would look out of place. However, an open shirt is casual enough that any kind of buckle would probably not look out of place.

Here's a mental exercise for you... Have you noticed what gun belt "Jessie Stone" uses in the series of movies? It shows all the time since he wears an open sport coat often.

i'm not familiar with the series... but i want to know the answer!

is it a large piece of turquoise?

Does it say "Colt"??

okay, googled it.

tom selleck is jessie stone

he wears a black.. wilderness belt? looks like a black nylon pistol instructor's belt with a gray steel triangular buckle -- very military looking.

but he's a police chief. he wears a hat that says PD. not a shock that he would carry a gun all the time, right? so that belt makes sense.

I'm a civilian. No one is supposed to know I carry a gun. No NRA hat, no Glock t-shirt, no "I shoot back" bumper sticker, no Blackhawk boots, and no tactical belt -- for me.

Know what? I've been wearing a Wilderness belt for over a decade now. Exactly one person asked me about it and they did so because they were belt shopping themselves.

The point is kind of lost if you haven't seen the show. It has some of the best gun work in TV. Selleck is a known gun guy and is interested in realism.

In any case, my point is I've seen all the Jessie Stone films beginning with their initial release, and I'm a "gun guy" and look for all the little gun bits in the movies. I also wear a Wilderness Instructor belt, so I know it when I see it. However, I watched probably half of the movies before I realized he wears an Instructor belt. He's not wearing a cover garment like a Hawaiian shirt completely covering his belt, but usually an unbuttoned sport coat. The "odd" Instructor buckle is plainly visible from the first movie on, but I didn't initially notice it.

Now when I watch the movies, I notice it right off, since I'm looking for it, but I didn't initially and I know what it looks like. Unless you're studying men's fashion as you're walking down the street you'll most likely not notice the belt either. Of course a tan Instructor belt with a black wool dress suit would certainly be out of place and noticeable, but otherwise most will never notice the belt.

I'd get a Wilderness 5-Stitch Instructor belt

Yep, they are nice. The last few I bought were the Uncle Mikes version though 2 for one difference in price.

That Wilderness easy fit basic belt looks looks really nice and its on sale. Too bad it only comes in 1.25". I must say the Wilderness belts are really nice! It was the first actual pistol belt I purchased. For me at least it was a little too heavy duty for every day use but was a really nice belt. With most of these pistol belts the size is pretty critical and if you gain a few pounds (like me) the belt won't fit well anymore.

Not to hijack the thread but while everyone is here does anyone know of any good belts with infinite size adjustments like the Aries Ageis Belt, the Wilderness easy fit basic, or 5.11 TDU belt? I'd like to get a couple basic 1.5" pistol belts for other shooters I take with me and really like the one size fits all.

Thanks, Dan

It's just a pants belt though. It's not designed to be a gun belt.

The Basic Belt is super lightweight and is perfect when you just need a simple belt for shorts or pants and don't need any load-bearing for gear. It is not recommended for weapons-carry.

Are you looking for a belt that has the adjustability of those you mentioned, or one that offers more adjustability?

I bought my belt from Mitch Rosen over 10 years ago and have had no issues with It. It has held a 1911, USP.45, and a pretty heavy sheath knife for with so sag. It was not cheap but it will last forever if I do my part and not gain much more weight. I might buy another one for my dress pants and suit wear, I just need to find the right belt and buckle.

Thanks JTQ, I didn't notice it was just a pants belt.

Im looking for a belt that has the adjustability of those mentioned. Basically something with infinite adjustability but still a true pistol belt. It won't be as good as a true cut to fit belt but would be far superior to typical belt.

Thanks, Dan

Talon Tactical has both a ring belt and Cobra buckle belt. https://www.talontactical.com/belts-c-8.html

Those tactical belts give "micro" adjustments, but really aren't any more "universal" than a regular leather belt. The tactical belts usually give you a range of a couple of inches bigger or smaller with the one belt, about what a leather belt will give you with the typical 5 hole belt.

I've not used them, but how about those competition belts? Do they cover a wider range of sizes? CR Speed belt https://www.speedshooter.com/product_detail.cfm?id=CRSPBLT-DXS&n=
