Your Favorite Revolver Platform

What is your favorite revolver "platform" ? Do you prefer Smith J/K/L/N/X frames ? Single Action Revolvers of the Colt '73 or Remington '75/'90 pattern ? Colt C/D/E/I/SF/etc ? Ruger Service line, or perhaps the SP/GP/RH/SRH/BH/SBH lines ?

What is your favorite cartridge in pairing with your favorite platform, and why ?
The Webley Mk.1 and Mk.2 in .455. Beautiful pieces of machinery.

Another vote for S&W L frames. I consider the L frame the perfect size and compromise of size weight, capacity, and ability to handle 357mag.

Colt Python. No real reason, I just like my Pythons. The only thing I shoot with them is a piece of paper, but just holding them makes me grin.

I like Smith and Wesson K-frames too. I've owned N's and J's and various and sundry other brands, but I suppose it's` pretty close between the Python, and a nice K-frame like this Model 67-1, 38 Special. I can have two favorites.

Lately my favorite has been my Cimarron sourced Uberti 1860 Army chambered in 45acp !!
The 45acp Kirst conversion cylinder is the latest offering from the company. It is also an industry first offering for the open-top platform!! The setup seems to be a rather accurate shooter!! Will update from time to time.

I love N-Frame S&Ws, specifically my Model 29-2! I was wearing mine all weekend in a shoulder holster while exploring the woods in an area with a high bear population. It's one of those guns that is almost too nice to carry... but I carry it anyway, because it's too nice to leave in the safe!

For the past good many years, my main application for a revolver has been IDPA REV, calling for a 4" centerfire DA sixshooter.
I have done side by side comparisons.
I bounce back and forth between M67 and M686.
The M25 loads easy with clips but is heavy to handle.
The Python has style but a loooong action.

Ruger single actions followed closely by Colt repros. I like the adjustable sights on the Rugers and shoot them better. I don't really have a need for a huge amount of horsepower but enjoy the big boomers loaded down somewhat. Age an arthritis has taken a toll on my wrist and I prefer to not have it hurting. I also have some double/single action revolvers but shoot them much less than the SA's. I just don't enjoy them as much as I do the cowboy guns.

Ho...
Big fan of the S&W N and L frame revolvers and just about any SAA clone by Uberti, Pietta, Taylor's, Cimmaron and the Schofield and Remington clones. I also have a large number of BlackHawks and Dan Wesson revolvers so apparently I have quite an affinity for them as well.
I like revolvers.

Across the board for value, durability, quality, size, shootability etc. I have to go with the Ruger security six. Others may be better in certain areas but as a whole the security six has the best combination IMO. Its a shame Ruger abandoned it but I understand why.

An all-around favorite, not favorite for a particular use? That's a tough one.

I guess it'd have to be the Ruger SP-101. I particularly like it in a 3" 357, as it can do a bit of everything.

In a survival hunting situation, I could hunt big game with a heavy 357 load and the laser grip sight. (not ideal, but I think it'd put a deer down with a lung shot and some tracking)
In a survival SHTF/riot scenario, it would be good with 38+P hollow points and a few speed loaders, or even regular 38 wadcutters.
At the range, it's pretty accurate.
As a concealed carry gun, it's not TOO big or heavy.

It's my Goldilocks handgun.

Mine looks like this, but with the CTC laser grip that accommodates the pinky:

If I were to buy one nowaday$, I think I'd get the Lipsey's Distributor model; blued with a shorter under lug, wood grip insert and adjustable sights:

As someone said earlier, Rugers using this type of action aren't hard to improve at home. I polished up the internals on mine, polished the sides of the hammer, radiused the trigger corners a bit, and installed a Wolff spring kit and it is a nice shooter.

I almost said "S&W K", as they have better actions from the factory, but they're too big to CC.

A new Colt King Cobra (3") might be in the mix, but I've not shot one. Trigger & build quality seem nice.

My favored revolvers are S&W. It’s really tough to pick a favorite frame size. For concealed carry it would have to be the J frame. When it comes to 38 special or 22, it’s hard to beat a K frame. My first , “Gotta get one” revolver was a 686. The L frame is excellent for launching 357 magnums. When I want to impress with my shooting skills, my N frame model 625 is the answer and for all around good looks and great shooting the models 27 and 28 are sure to please

Aww, you took a family photo! How'd you get them to behave so well?

For me, it's the S&W K-frame. With a Tyler T-grip, it just fits my hand so very well. Must be a reason they were the sidearm of choice for US LE for half a century.

The purchasing agent for the LE Departments may have had a say in that. Or the folks that set up the guide lines for private purchase.
