Was going through some drawers looking for documents and stumbled upon a junk drawer with a bunch of firearm paraphernalia that I had forgotten about.

Among other things, were a couple of holsters.

The one on the left is the poster child for the handgun newbie and I have no idea why I have it or what if was used for. It doesn't look like it's ever been used. Maybe I snatched it from some guy wearing BDUs and carrying a S&W Sigma open carry in the food court at the local mall. Who knows.

The one on the right is for my Cimarron Arms 1873 Peacemaker Cavalry model and was used by my dad for said pistol for SASS matches, before he gave the gun and holster to me.

But even though it is cool, it is not my coolest holster. That title is reserved for a rig I bought down in Mexico a couple of years ago.

It doesn't fit the Peacemaker, so I've been meaning to buy a shorter-barreled one just for the holster.

Interested to see if anyone else owns a worse holster than the one on the left. Or a cooler one than my cowboy rig.

It wasn't mine, and I neglected to take a picture, but . . . . My Dad had a couple of Colt snubnose revolvers. When I looked at them a couple of years ago, at least one of them was in a (probably) 1980s OWB pancake that looked like it had been specifically cut to expose the trigger. I think that might have been the norm in the '80s, but don't remember that personally.

Make it black rather than brown nylon and I have that for my wife's Beretta 81. It's not a great holster. In fact I wouldn't use it for concealed carry at all unless forced to. I bought it because of the spare holster pocket so the spare will always be with the gun whether it's in the glove box or her bag. Those 81 mags are expensive!

While not necessarily embarrassing this canvas holster is somewhat suspect in not being what it's supposed to be: a French Foreign Legion holster for the MAC-50 pistol. I have found photos of the real thing and while it was made in green canvas (used primarily for airborne units in a more tropical climate), the actual issue holster has a large flap cover and no spare magazine pouch. The holster I got from a surplus Army/Navy dealer just has a retention strap and 9 bullet loops on it. There are also no manufacturer's markings on it or any military acceptance marks.

Oh well at least it didn't cost that much a number of years ago. It is very well made and it fits my Manurhin P1 perfectly!

Viva la France!

As for the fancy Mexican rig, a buddy of mine bought the same exact thing at a local gun show for his Ruger Super Blackhawk. He built his own backyard range and just wanted something to tote his favorite wheel gun with while he was out walking his property. For the money it was a great buy!

I carried in an ACE nylon shoulder rig for a couple of years. It worked great with my Browning BDM and later my Glock 22. I only used it when ATV riding in the woods though.

I carried a Colt Pony in a Thunderwear holster. Just the name is funny but it worked fine for what it was........deep carry. Although worn in college on several dates, it got uncomfortable sitting down and especially so if the date was very attractive. I still have it but sold the Colt. I haven't used it since about 2007.

Coolest has to be my Safariland ALS paddle but I have to lean way over to draw from it. It's just too high of a ride. Works great as cross draw though.

Also my Andrews Leather Monarch shoulder holster rocks. I carry a 1911 in it during winter and it's da bomb.

I guess I have to have Photobucket or something to post pics.......after they started charging I never logged on again.

Thunderwear had a pretty wild advertising pic of a fit couple with their pants open to show their Thunderwear holsters. I think it's kinda silly.

Sneaky Pete looks a bit silly too but hey "if it's stupid but it works it's not 'stupid.'"

I have the obligatory "Box 'o Holsters" in my shop, I'd say it's a tie between several belly bands, which I have too much belly for, and the 'calendar/notebook' case/holster that came with my S&W BodyGuard 38 when I bought it.
The "Drawer o' Holsters" has about a dozen, 4 or 5 of which actually see use.

What that holster is good for, is the proberbial "truck gun" (which you shouldn't have, anyway). Something to store it in.
