The report about the ban on SERPA holsters is actually made available by FLETC. Someone made it available under FOIA, and once it was thus cleared, FLETC themselves published it. Anyone who's concerned about shooting oneself with SERPA can download it and read it.

My take-away:

- the hazard is real, although very unlikely; before FLETC banned SERPA, only 4 discharges happened

- it was surprising that SERPA is dangerous when drawing, not holstering like most other cases

- SERPA is not the only design that features an unlock with the trigger finger

The best holster I have ever used that holds up well to abuse is the Safariland Model 5188 paddle holster. Mine recently started to show some hairline cracks but it has endured 11 years of hard use. Not bad for a $39 holster. I purchased the Safariland holster because I broke a Blackhawk Serpa holster in less than 2 months and they wouldn't replace the paddle that broke. I told them I was taking my business elsewhere and never looked back.

Honestly, it’s very frustrating to me, as a right handed person, to have to wade through all the great deals on holsters on eBay that are lefty. Often, they are cheaper than comparable righty holsters.
Imagine the frustration of being left handed in a right handed world.

This is my dally carry. It’s an OWB made by RM Holsters, here in Baton Rouge Louisiana.
Is that a paddle holster?

If a paddle holster, in the pistol retention vs paddle security, can you tighten the retention screws down far enough that the holster can be drawn off the belt by grabbing the gun and pulling, or is the belt security strong enough to hold it in place?

It’s similar to a paddle holster.
The holster stays in place on the belt. The retention screws can be tightened to hold the gun more firmly.
It so comfortable that I almost forget that I have it no , sometimes.

Thanks for the link to RM Holsters! I like the designs, especially the Offset Drop Paddle Holster.

I'm sorry, I probably didn't word my question clearly enough. I understand the screws can be tightened.

My question is how secure on the belt is the paddle holster. I've seen RM Holsters before, they were very popular about 10 years ago, and I forgot about them in the ensuing years. Until looking at your link, I had forgotten they were a paddle holster.

The typical down side of paddle holsters is their stability/security on the belt. My question focuses on how secure on the belt is the RM Extreme Cant Paddle holster. Can the holster tension be adjusted so tight on the gun that the holster could be pulled off the belt if the gun is attempted to be drawn or is the paddle attachment so secure on the belt this can't happen?

The holster is very secure on the belt. The key is to wear a correct size belt.
I re-qualify will my off duty/secondary gun each year. Drawing from the holster often is required. I have never had any issues.

Kee Darnell is the owner of RM Holsters and is a great guy. A friend from Texas wanted to check out some holsters a while back so, we went to see Kee. Kee made him a holster for a CZ pistol while we waited.

Now that's some awesome customer service!

The paddle on the Safariland holsters holds the gun nice and tight to the body. That was the other issue I had with the Blackhawk Serpa holster. It didn’t hold the gun tight to the body and tended to flap around a bit.

If you can find some NOS(new old stock) Safariland 0701-83-131 OWB holsters they work great. They are Level II and work like the old Rogers/Safariland 070 LIII duty holster, they are a high ride design. They are made of the Safariland laminate type material. I use this holster for OWB applications like working in a store setting but with a cover garment. Very secure yet still fast enough once you learn how to use it.
