at a single target and hitting? 1000 yrds.
at a single target and missing? dunno exactly, but a lot further :)

The new range I am going to has a 1000 yard range. Over the next year, I plan to set up a 1,000 yard rifle; I think something in a .338 Lapua. I keep my .270 inside of 600 for Elk.

Our range has a 200 yard backstop. I backed up to the gate and fired off my hood once, about 320 yards measured by pacing. No one was there, but me and I was blocking the gate. :D

I ain't too worried about anything over 400 yards. I'll get closer. I'm not a long range shooter. Most of the game around here is under 100 yards and you can't see 200. I've hunted out in the mountains and rugged desert, but there's just too many factors shooting at game to risk it much over 350-400 for me. My rangefinder doesn't go over 400, no real desire. If I had facilities to practice farther and hunted where I could use it, might be different. But, I'm happy with my limits.

Are we talking well aimed shots or kind of beaten zone type of deal. Because if its well aimed shots then I'd have to say about 800 yards, but for just shooting, right around 2000 meters, and I did hit what I was aiming at

Palma matches are fired @ 800, 900 & 1000 yards; 15 shots @ each distance. Slow fire prone, iron sights, no artificial support. Targets have 10" X ring and 20" ten ring.

Regards,
hps

1000 yards M14 with a bunch of coaching from some friends that shot matches in the Navy. Doubt I could reproduce that just from memory, would need alot of practice. Longest range locally is 200 yards and I like to break out the M1A and assorted Milsurps to keep the skills alive. Most time lately I have been shooting the reduced 25 meter targets like the ones they use at the Appleseed events. They have become pretty popular at my most frequented range that is limited to only 50 meters. I think the guys needed a little challenge. Bill

I've done 850yds. It's a challange for sure. Gonna' try my hand at 1000 in August at RED Castle in Sand Springs OK.

many years ago . browning automatic rifle. 12 out of 15 shots , three shot bursts into a 18 inch bullseye at 800 yards. not that hard with a bar rifle.

400 to 500, but I don't have that place to shoot anymore. 300 is all I can do now.

Stepped up to the 100 yrd range a few months ago when I got my Mosin.

I'm an open sights kind of guy.

Looking at the poll results so far raises a question.

If 40% of us (at least) never fire a practiced shot beyond 200 yards, (either at targets or game) and 50% of us not beyond 300 yds. - what statement do those facts make about...

* What we really need in a hunting caliber.

* What we really need in a hunting rifle.

* What we really need in hunting sights.

* What we really need in a target rifle and target caliber.

You need 1001+.

Lobbing 40mm granades is no fun at anything under 400 yards. under that I would not want to be next to you either.

300m with a rifle.

When I lived in Arizona I could shoot in the desert without fear of hitting anyone by shooting into the side of a hill I used to shoot at alot farther ranges than I do now. There was a place just outside of the north side of Phoenix where people used to abandon old messed up cars, washers and dryers, empty propane tanks, camper shells and other old junk that they didn't want.

Several times we shot from 700 to 800 yards with scoped FAL's and H&K 91's and were able to hit the target without much trouble once we fired a couple rounds and walked the rounds in. That's about the farthest I've shot and actually hit anything. The few times we did it we shot at an old beat up dryer and a shot up VW bug that had both been there forever.

Mostly now I'm stuck shooting at a range where the farthest distance is 100 yards, except for when I get a chance to shoot on a deer lease or something and then I try to get in as much practice at 200 and 300 yards as I can.
